Job description

What you'll do

We're looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Power Distribution Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll own the design and customization of power distribution products - including switchboards, PDUs, and RPPs - from concept to manufacturing release. You'll leverage your CAD expertise and deep knowledge of UL standards to develop mechanical and electrical prints that meet rigorous quality and safety benchmarks. Where you'll work

If based outside of our Houston, Long Beach or San Francisco hubs, this role will be based remotely from your home office. You must be willing to occasionally travel once a quarter.

Responsibilities
  • Customize switchboard, PDU, and RPP designs based on customer specifications and project requirements
  • Create detailed mechanical and electrical CAD drawings in SolidWorks, adhering to UL 891, UL 67, and other applicable standards
  • Maintain up-to-date design documentation and clearly communicate changes to relevant stakeholders
  • Review and verify all drawings to ensure clarity, manufacturability, and alignment with technical requirements
  • Troubleshoot design issues during production in collaboration with manufacturing teams
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously and deliver on deadlines
  • Communicate effectively across time zones to align technical deliverables and resolve any issues quickly
Requirements
  • Degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated experience designing UL 891-compliant low-voltage switchboards
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and material specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when coordinating with international teams
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at once
Bonus points
  • Familiarity with UL 67, UL 1561, or medium voltage switchgear design
  • Experience with PDU or RPP design, including branch circuit protection, busbar sizing, and downstream power distribution
  • Familiarity with Annex G of UL 891
  • Experience using PDM systems for CAD file management (SolidWorks PDM)
  • Background working with international or cross-functional teams in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of modular data center or critical power infrastructure products, including rack-level PDUs and remote power panels
