Job description

Distribution Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a reliable and mission-driven Distribution Specialist to join a dynamic operations team on a temp-to-hire basis. This role plays a critical part in mobile food distribution operations, requiring a candidate who is comfortable behind the wheel of a large vehicle, thrives in community-facing environments, and can manage both physical and administrative responsibilities with equal confidence.

This is a meaningful, active role for someone who wants their work to make a direct impact every day.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay: $24.00 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a 15–20 foot vehicle to conduct mobile distributions throughout the service area
  • Facilitate distribution operations including site setup, volunteer coordination, and food safety compliance
  • Provide input on site locations, scheduling, and facilitation of monthly mobile distributions
  • Maintain accurate program records in required reporting and tracking systems
  • Communicate program updates, policy changes, and operational adjustments to community members, partners, and stakeholders as needed
  • Train and support volunteers at distribution sites
  • Comply with applicable grant requirements
  • Assist with other program activities and special events as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to push/pull pallets up to 2,000 lbs. using an electric pallet jack
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit for long periods while driving and entering data
  • Ability to manage outdoor distributions regardless of weather conditions
  • Ability to frequently operate and navigate a vehicle through urban, suburban, and rural communities, including two-lane rural roads and mountain passes
  • Knowledge of tire chain installation and removal in inclement weather conditions

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of work experience in a logistics environment
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and satisfactory driving record required
  • Ability to achieve forklift certification within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to achieve Food Safety Certification within 3 months of hire
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and solve on-the-ground challenges
  • Must provided a clean driving record.
  • Pre-employment background check required — must pass prior to start date
  • Pre-employment drug screening required — must pass prior to start date

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of experience in a non-profit or volunteer environment
  • Experience working with senior populations
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience driving oversized vehicles
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
  • Strong computer skills including data entry, spreadsheets, email, and web-based tools
  • CPR Certification
  • Logistics or warehouse certifications (please include in application if applicable)

Work Environment

This position operates primarily in the field, with exposure to varying weather conditions, warehouse settings, and occasional office time. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and driving throughout the region, including rural and mountain areas. A positive, community-focused attitude is essential.
