Carebridge Health is a proud member of the Elevance Health family of companies within our Carelon business. Carebridge Health exists to enable individuals in home and community-based settings to maximize their health, independence, and quality of life through home care and community-based services.

The Senior Distributed Systems Engineer will design and scale cloud-native backend systems that power enterprise device management and connected healthcare platforms. This role is focused on building secure, high-performance, and scalable backend systems that enable device provisioning, management, and integration across cloud-native environments. We welcome candidates with Kotlin server-side experience from platform engineering, fintech, SaaS, cloud infrastructure, IoT, and distributed systems backgrounds.

You will lead the architecture and development of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure that support mission-critical healthcare applications. This is a backend-first role with deep emphasis on microservices, system design, and cloud engineering, working across platform, infrastructure, and application engineering teams to build core backend systems that power enterprise device operations.

How You Will Make an Impact:

  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance backend architectures across distributed, cloud-native systems
  • Define and contribute to system architecture, integration patterns, and API design standards
  • Evolve highly available backend systems responsible for secure provisioning, policy management, telemetry, and integrations across large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java/Spring Boot, Kotlin, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Docker, ensuring code quality and best practices
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, performance, and observability in production environments
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and cloud infrastructure design
  • Partner with mobile and platform teams to build backend services that support device management (MDM), external APIs, and enterprise integrations
  • Participate in technical design sessions, architecture reviews, and requirements gathering
  • Mentor engineers and promote best practices in backend development and system design
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business needs and platform goals
  • Research and recommend new technologies and enhancements to improve platform capabilities
  • Support vendor evaluation and integration of third-party services
  • Contribute to system and data architecture improvements, including assessing current systems and recommending enhancements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires an BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study and a minimum of 5 years of experience in architecture/design in relevant technology disciplines; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences:

  • Strong backend engineering experience using Kotlin and/or Java within JVM-based microservices architectures.
  • Experience building cloud-native backend services using Spring Boot, Kotlin, or similar JVM technologies. NOTE: This is a backend/platform engineering role, not a mobile application development role.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, microservices, and RESTful API design.
  • Experience with cloud-native development on AWS (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes preferred).
  • Proficiency with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including performance tuning and data modeling
  • Ability to balance technical, analytical, and product considerations in solution design.
  • Exposure to Okta (IAM), Grafana (monitoring / observability); Geocoding API is a bonus.
