Distributed Antenna Systems information

What does a distributed antenna system professional do?

A Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) job involves designing, installing, and maintaining networks of antennas that improve wireless coverage in buildings and dense areas. Professionals in this field work with RF engineering, signal testing, and equipment like repeaters and fiber-optic cabling. Their role is essential in ensuring reliable cellular and public safety communications in facilities such as stadiums, hospitals, and airports.

What does a typical project lifecycle look like for a distributed antenna system professional?

A typical project for a Distributed Antenna Systems professional starts with site surveys and needs assessment, followed by designing the system layout and coordinating with architects, building owners, and other stakeholders. You will then be involved in overseeing or performing the installation, configuring equipment, conducting signal testing, and troubleshooting any issues to ensure optimal coverage. Beyond installation, ongoing maintenance, system upgrades, and client training may also be part of your responsibilities. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and adapting to diverse building environments are key aspects of this dynamic role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the distributed antenna system position?

To excel in a Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) role, you need a solid understanding of RF engineering, wireless communications, and network design, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with DAS components, signal testing tools like spectrum analyzers, and certifications such as iBwave or FCC GROL are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear communication skills help professionals effectively collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members. These competencies ensure reliable system performance and successful project implementation in diverse and complex environments.

Job description

About Axon 911

Axon 911 brings together Prepared and Carbyne under Axon. Together, we are creating the only platform that combines modern 911 infrastructure with an AI intelligence layer-helping public safety agencies move faster, make better decisions, and deliver better outcomes in the moments that matter most.

911 is the backbone of public safety, yet the professionals behind it have long been held back by outdated technology. Axon 911 is here to change that. Joining this team means more than taking a job-it means helping shape the future of emergency response and building a safer, more connected world.

Your Impact

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to own the design, development, and validation of complex electrical systems for mission-critical, connected hardware.

As a founding member of our hardware team, you will have significant ownership across the full hardware lifecycle, helping establish the technical architecture and engineering standards needed to scale.

You will work across schematics design and layout, RF coexistence, mechanical integration, form factor, and hardware debugging, solving complex challenges across cellular and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) frequencies, power, thermal performance, and signal integrity.

What You'll Do
  • Electrical & Board Design: Develop mixed-signal schematics and drive PCB layout across application processors, RF transceivers, power management, battery charging, memory, and high-speed digital interfaces.
  • RF Integration & Coexistence: Design and validate RF and radio systems across multiple wireless technologies, addressing RF performance, coexistence, interference, isolation, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Mechanical Integration: Partner closely with Mechanical and Industrial Design to optimize board layout, component placement, antenna integration, and form factor within tight physical constraints.
  • Bring-Up & Debugging: Bring up, characterize, and troubleshoot hardware using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, power supplies, and other electrical and RF test equipment.
  • Production Readiness: Drive component selection, Bills of Materials (BOMs), design documentation, verification, and electrical readiness from concept through certification and mass production.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction to electrical engineering team members and external design partners, reviewing designs and driving hardware objectives to completion.
What You Bring
  • 7+ years of embedded electronics design experience and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related discipline, with experience in high-speed, high-density, battery-powered, or low-power systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with PCB design and layout, RF integration and coexistence, mechanical integration, and hardware bring-up/debugging for highly integrated devices.
  • Experience across embedded subsystems, including application processors, microcontrollers, high-speed memory, power delivery, battery/charging circuitry, wireless/RF integration, and high-speed or wired interfaces.
  • Proven experience taking electronics from concept through schematic and PCB design, verification, certification, manufacturing ramp, and mass production.
  • Strong understanding of RF coexistence and interference across cellular and regulated frequency bands, along with signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility considerations.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, as well as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, power supplies, and related electrical and RF test equipment.
  • Experience designing rigid, flex, or rigid-flex PCBs and working within tight mechanical and form-factor constraints.
  • Experience designing electronics to meet U.S. and international hardware, wireless, and safety standards and regulations.
  • Experience working with design partners, Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), or Joint Design Manufacturers (JDMs) and collaborating effectively across cross-functional and geographically distributed teams.
Work Location

This position offers a hybrid schedule, requiring team members to work onsite at one of our regional hubs, located in New York City, Boston, or Scottsdale, Arizona -  Tuesday through Friday.

  • Relocation Assistance: Relocation support is available for qualified candidates who are currently based in the U.S., authorized to work for a U.S. employer, and open to relocating closer to one of our regional hubs.
  • Fully Remote Eligibility: Full-time remote eligibility will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to accommodate specific needs.
