Job description

Description
The Tufts University School of Medicine's Department of Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenured faculty appointment at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications for the accelerated Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in Phoenix, AZ to serve as the Assistant/Associate Director of Student Affairs for the DPT Program. The title will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This seven-semester DPT program is a blend of online and on-campus activities, which allows the faculty member to live remotely to the Tufts School of Medicine Phoenix location. DPT faculty members, however, must be able to travel and stay in Phoenix, AZ for designated periods each semester. The successful candidate is expected to enhance current teaching and mentoring activities within the DPT program, as well as develop a scholarly agenda and participate in community and professional service appropriate for a university faculty member.
This individual is expected to work with the Director of Student Affairs to develop and oversee all functions of the Office of Student Affairs. The ideal candidate should be able to foster inclusivity and relate well with students, staff, and faculty. The Office of Student Affairs is responsible for student progression, retention, coaching, various academic and non-academic policies, and student-related events including orientation and on-campus socials. This individual must work to integrate all students into Tufts University School of Medicine culture and serves as a point of contact for student issues related to distance learning life. Additionally, this individual will serve on the Academic Standing Committee which oversees academic progression, retention, professional behaviors, remediation, and informs program-related policies and procedures.

Service Responsibilities: Refer to appropriate faculty rank within the School of Medicine Faculty Handbook (included but not limited to Tufts University, School of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, DPT Program, professional, and community service)

Essential Tasks and Functions
Teach courses as agreed upon with the Program Chair, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.
Essential Tasks and Functions of the Assistant/Associate Director of Student Affairs are conducted in collaboration with the Director of Student Affairs:
1. Coordinates student selection activities with Director of Admission, to include application review, selection for interview, final student selection and enrollment offer.
2. Welcomes students into the DPT program immediately following enrollment offer acceptance and before orientation.
3. Coordinates and oversees the student development program to include:
a. Administrating learning style assessments
b. Providing developmental resources related to best practices for graduate DPT students
c. Ensuring student coaching supports their professional development and is completed in accordance with established policies and procedures
d. Making appropriate student support referrals
4. Coordinates and oversees the coaching program to include:
a. Matching of students with faculty coaches and peer support groups/partners
b. Supporting faculty academic coaches with developmental resources related to teaching and coaching best practices
c. Ensuring student coaching supports their professional development and is completed in accordance with established policies and procedures
5. Serves as program liaison with the Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Graduate Student Services.
6. Provides student support during on-site clinical skills labs.
7. Oversees the academic and professional behavior performance of students to include grade reporting, academic progression, retention, withdrawal, and dismissal and professional conduct.
8. Coordinates and conducts student orientation and assists with graduation functions.
9. Facilities elections and provides oversight of cohort leadership.
10. Directs departmental staff/support personnel who assist with student affairs and records administration (i.e., DPT Administrative Coordinator).
11. Coordinates all activities of the Academic Standing Committee.
12. Reviews the ongoing development and review of regulations, policies, and procedures that meet accreditation standards and achieve program goals and expected outcomes, to include:
a. Program mission, goals, and objectives
b. Student, faculty, and program policies and procedures as reflected in the DPT Student Handbook
c. Consider faculty input and makes recommendations regarding changes to program policies and procedures
13. Provides oversight to the following components of the Program Assessment Plan and CAPTE Self Study Report: Program Mission, Program Goals and Objectives, Policies and Procedures, Core and Associated Faculty, and Program Resources.
14. Ensures all policies, procedures, and practices are following accreditation standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an academic doctorate and previous experience working closely with students. Candidates with a DPT and American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) certification or certification credentials appropriate for their teaching responsibilities will also be considered.
This position, like all Tufts DPT faculty positions, is a non-tenure track faculty position with salary and rank commensurate with qualifications. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must demonstrate the potential to become independent investigators and teachers. If candidates seek the rank of Associate Professor or higher, they must have a proven track record of scholarship and graduate student advising and teaching at the Doctoral level. The candidate must be licensed in or eligible for physical therapist licensure in Arizona.
