Job description

Heavy Equipment Operator / Labourer (Excavator /Hoe/Loader) (Seasonal) - MUST BE LEGAL TO WORK IN CANADA

Help Build a Living Legacy. Alpha Better Landscaping is currently building in the following communities: Legacy, Wolf Willow, Seton, Cornerstone, Livingston, Carrington, Evanston, Rockland Park, Watermark, Haskayne (Bearspaw), Heartland (Cochrane) South shores, Waterford, Chelsea (Chestermere).
Alpha Better Landscaping Inc. is a leader in the commercial and residential landscaping industry; we are looking for an experienced Excavator / Hoe Operator/Labourer located at our Calgary facility.
This is a seasonal position from April to Nov, winter snow removal positions may be available.
The Excavator/Hoe Operator is responsible for the safe operation of CAT 308C, CAT 320 DLL, or Case CX210 during project construction.
Responsibilities:
  • Perform pre-operational and hazard assessment checks on equipment and job site.
  • Perform assigned excavations on schedule, as directed by the Heavy Equipment Supervisor and the Project Superintendents.
  • Ensure grading, sloping, and trenching are done to the proper depth and grade.
  • Drive truck and trailer to move equipment from project locations.
  • Conduct work in accordance with OH&S requirements.
  • Observe and note the condition of excavator equipment to ensure standards are met and problems and defects are corrected.
  • Be prepared to help crews with Laborer tasks if there isn't excavator work onsite, must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

Other duties as assigned:
  • Ability to communicate with crew members, foreman, and other colleagues.
  • Ability to prioritize in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to read layout plans as an asset
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Physical dexterity to handle prolonged sitting and operating an excavator.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to follow directions.
  • Reliable, punctual, and a team player. Open to continuous learning.

Qualifications:
  • 1 to 2 years of experience operating an excavator.
  • Class 5 driver's license with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must possess a CLEAN driver abstract and the ability to drive trucks and trailers.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications.
  • Calculate weight, distance, volume, and other measurements related to excavating.
