Job description

Position Overview:

As a Lead Dispatch Clerk - Book Out Person, you will be responsible for assigning drivers to daily routes based on the employee work schedule and operational needs. This position ensures all outbound loads are covered by the appropriate driver while maintaining accurate scheduling and dispatch records. The Book Out Person serves as a key point of communication between drivers and transportation leadership to ensure efficient daily operations and on-time deliveries.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assign drivers to daily routes based on the employee work schedule, availability, and operational needs.
  • Book out all scheduled loads to the appropriate drivers while ensuring complete route coverage.
  • Review driver schedules, time-off requests, hours of service.
  • Make adjustments to driver assignments throughout the day due to call-offs, delays, equipment issues, or operational changes.
  • Communicate route assignments, schedule changes, and operational updates to drivers.
  • Review and maintain book out screens to ensure all loads have been assigned.
  • Verify the accuracy of backhaul’ s to ensure they are picked up timely.
  • Communicate operational updates to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Work closely with transportation management to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by transportation leadership.

Environment:

  • Transportation Warehouse Office  65*F to 75*F  

Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday
  • 7:00am - 5:00pm

Compensation:

  • $23.00 - $27.00 

Experience:

  • Preferred: 1-2 years of transportation/dispatch experience required; prior experience training or leading a team preferred; DOT knowledge of rules and regulations
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems such as but not limited to Roadnet, Global, YMS,E-mail, Voice mail etc
  • Preferred: Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with associates and leadership

  • Physical abilities: Ability to stand, walk and sit throughout your day; Walking on a variety of flooring such as carpet, concrete, tile etc;
  • Strong Communication Skills: Communication of expectations and directions in a clear, concise and professional manner; reporting data and information accurately to leaders and team members
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to multi-task during shift, ability to prioritize tasks based on impact
  • Quality: Maintain integrity and high standards of product and data from all perspectives
  • Safety Culture: Maintain and drive safety policies and demonstrate safe practices throughout shift
