Disaster Recovery Engineer
Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (Partial Remote)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
The Disaster Recovery Engineer will join an established Disaster Recovery Engineering program within a large healthcare enterprise. This role is designed for a highly technical infrastructure engineer with real-world disaster recovery exposure. The position focuses on infrastructure-first disaster recovery, ensuring core services are recoverable before clinical applications can function. The engineer will assess, plan, and remediate disaster recovery strategies and work with various teams to evaluate readiness and participate in DR testing.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, and create disaster recovery plans to scale the program.
  • Support DR planning and execution for foundational infrastructure services, including Active Directory, network services (DNS, DHCP), and virtualization platforms.
  • Participate in enterprise evaluations of disaster recovery readiness and help identify gaps, risks, and single points of failure.
  • Contribute to remediation plans and work with platform SMEs to improve recoverability.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining DR documentation, including runbooks and recovery procedures.
  • Participate in DR testing activities, including failover/failback exercises and tabletop simulations.
  • Provide hands-on support during incident response or recovery events.
  • Work alongside infrastructure, networking, and security teams to align recovery approaches.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3-5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, site reliability, or a disaster recovery-adjacent role. Practical experience with disaster recovery or resiliency planning for enterprise infrastructure in large-scale, cross-functional environments is required.
Technical Skills: Experience with multiple infrastructure domains is required, including Active Directory, networking services, and VMware or other virtualization platforms. Knowledge of backup tools such as Dell Avamar, PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), Rubrik, or Cohesity is necessary. An understanding of RTO, RPO, and business continuity concepts is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in healthcare, hospital systems, or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to business continuity planning, DR testing, or Disaster Impacts Model (DIMs) experience.
  • Cybersecurity exposure, including firewall technologies and security-related infrastructure dependencies.
  • Certification such as CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) or CFCP (Certified Functional Continuity Professional).
Compensation & Benefits
