This position is for a Backup Engineer who is an information technology professional who designs and implements enterprise IT backup solutions. This individual will be expected to provide excellent subject matter expert insight into problem resolution. The Backup Engineer will concentrate on high-level storage backup-related duties such as storage technology lifecycle management and product/solution design. The Backup Engineer is responsible for leading the vision and designs that map business needs to backup solutions and policies. This person will be a key contributor in defining and creating our future state backup technology and services while providing stable, predictable, and scalable enterprise backup solutions. This individual will work closely with server and storage engineers to ensure current and future implementation fits the end user's needs. 


Responsibilities: 

Backup/Archiving: tape, Data Domain, NetBackup, Centera 

OpsCenter experience is a must 

NetBackup Access Control (NBAC) - very important 

Requirements gathering and use case analysis that results in well documented and traceable business and technical requirements and SLA's for storage related technologies 

Maintaining an understanding of deployed customer solutions, potential issues, requirements, and service gaps 

Driving strategic planning and assuring consistency with business objectives for resiliency, disaster tolerance, and regulatory compliance 

Development and maintenance of various solution artifacts including: conceptual and detailed design, configuration guidelines, build books, run books, and service level definitions 

Determining hardware and software components to meet customer's requirements 

Performing proof of concepts for proposed solutions 

Establishing and maintaining vendor relationships with leading technology and solution providers 

Leading Operations Team to implement and continuously improve backup and data protection services 

Job Requirements\Qualifications: 

At least 5 years of experience in relevant technologies, including experience leading complex initiatives 

NAS with NDMP experience is desired 

Experience with backup using RMAN, SAP plugins, and other native application backups 

SQL and Exchange server backups using Netbackup 

Enterprise storage administration 

Understanding of dependent technologies including Cisco UCS and application specific storage requirements such as MS SQL, and EMC VMWare. 

Experience with next generation technologies such as clustered file systems is desired 

Desired is experience in automating processes and software/script development 

Hands on knowledge of key operating system environments including MS Windows, Solaris, HPUX, Red Hat Linux, and VMware 

Experience with Netbackup Appliances is a plus 

Must be able to work well in a changing environment
