Job Description

The Underwriting Quality Auditor independently evaluates underwriting files to assess quality, consistency, accuracy, authority management, appetite alignment, and compliance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements. This role identifies risk and process gaps, documents findings, provides actionable feedback, and partners with underwriting leadership and other stakeholders to support remediation, training, and continuous improvement.
This is a fully onsite position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently plan and execute underwriting quality audits across assigned lines of business, products, or review populations.
  • Audit underwriting files to assess quality, accuracy, documentation completeness, authority compliance, appetite alignment, rating execution, and adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Evaluate the severity, impact, and root cause of underwriting errors or process gaps and recommend appropriate remediation actions.
  • Document findings in a clear, concise, and supportable manner and provide constructive feedback and recommendations to underwriters, managers, and business partners.
  • Identify training opportunities, process improvements, and control enhancements to reduce recurring error trends and strengthen underwriting performance.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing audit results, trends, recommendations, and remediation status for management and senior management stakeholders.
  • Partner with underwriting leadership to discuss findings, validate remediation plans, and monitor improvement actions.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory, market, guideline, appetite, authority, and internal policy changes impacting underwriting standards and audit criteria.
  • Support internal and external audit requests and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the underwriting Quality Assurance framework.
  • Participate in regular departmental planning meetings and complete other projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of underwriting experience with an Excess & Surplus or Property & Casualty insurance carrier.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret underwriting guidelines, authority statements, appetite criteria, documentation requirements, and insurance regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Microsoft Excel and presentation tools.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including a high degree of interpersonal effectiveness, with the ability to discuss findings and influence corrective actions across profit centers.
  • Discipline and self-motivation to manage multiple audits, competing priorities, and deadlines with limited day-to-day supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Background in quality assurance, claims, compliance, specialty lines, or multiple insurance lines.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting systems, raters, workflows, and quality assurance tools.
  • 4-year degree from an accredited university.
