About Us

Th e Family Business Alliance (FBA) is a thriving membership-based association serving nearly 200 companies a cross West Michigan. Born out of an alliance with Grand Valley State University's Family Owned Business Institute and the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce in 2006, the FBA fosters community and mentorship among family business leaders, delivers tailored educational programs, and hosts valuable peer groups along with 16+ signature events and workshops each year - all to help members navigate the unique challenges of running a family business and improve succession outcomes. We approach this work with our core values of being member driven, providing a safe, confidential, and trusted community, and being accessible to meet our members where they are.

About this role

We are searching for the next Director to lead the Family Business Alliance into the next phase of growth. The FBA Director will serve as the visible face of the organization - building trust with family business owners, representing FBA in the community, strengthening partner relationships, and communicating the value of FBA with warmth, credibility, and professionalism. This role is ideal for you if you enjoy being a collaborative and strategic partner while rolling up your sleeves to get the job done. The Director also executes the strategic vision, provides administrative and financial oversight of the operations, and leads a team of three talented professionals to grow our reach and impact. In this role you will:

  • Bring a passion for family business and use your education, preferably a Bachelor's degree, and 8+ years of non-profit, business, or leadership experience to oversee execution of organization’s mission, strategic priorities, fiscal health, and programming
  • Have fundraising or sales expertise to spearhead revenue generation including grant writing, donor cultivation, corporate sponsorships, flagship events, and capital campaigns
  • Be a strong relationship builder, connector, and exceptional communicator to serve as the face of the organization, deepen partnerships, connect with business and position FBA as a trusted family business resource and champion
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to support effective governance, strategic decision-making, and transparent communication regarding organizational performance and strategy
  • Recruit, develop, and retain talented staff while fostering a thriving organizational culture
  • Leverage knowledge of the entrepreneurial operating system (EOS) to drive the organization in alignment with the 3-year picture and 10-year target goals
