Position Description
The Utilities Superintendent oversees underground utility operations on heavy civil construction projects, including water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related infrastructure systems. This role is responsible for directing day-to-day field activities to ensure utility work is performed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and schedules.
Working in coordination with the Director of Operations, Project Managers, Project Superintendent and field leadership, the Utilities Superintendent manages crews, subcontractors, materials, and equipment while maintaining productivity, controlling costs, and ensuring proper installation and testing of utility systems. This position plays a key role in utility coordination, conflict resolution, and successful delivery of underground infrastructure.
Position Requirements
- High School Degree
- Preferred: Post-Secondary Degree (Trade or Bachelor's)
- Minimum 7+ years of heavy civil construction experience with underground utilities.
- Experience installing water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, manholes, and related infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of trench safety, excavation support systems, and utility installation standards.
- Ability to interpret utility plans, profiles, and conflict points.
- Familiarity with TxDOT, municipal, and public infrastructure specifications.
- Proven ability to lead pipe crews, subcontractors, and utility support teams.
- Experience coordinating utility crossings, inspections, and testing requirements.
- Strong communication skills with inspectors, engineers, and project leadership.
- OSHA trenching and excavation safety knowledge.
- Ability to coordinate utility locates, 811 tickets, and conflict resolution.
- Valid driver's license and ability to manage multiple active work areas.
