Executive Director, Student Affairs and Academic Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applications for the Executive Director of Student Affairs and Academic Services. Reporting to the Provost, the Executive Director for Student Affairs and Academic Services provides senior level leadership within the Division of Academic Affairs focusing on student success, promoting and ensuring a sense of connection to the campus community and implementing holistic student success initiatives through oversight of the Student Success Center that includes tutoring, academic coaching, Math Lab, Oral Communication Lab, and Disability Services. The position also oversee advising, first year programs, the Citadel Summer Institute, and the Career Center. In addition, a primary area of responsibility include leading the Campus Assessment Team (CAT).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides leadership in maintaining a learner-centered philosophy for student service initiatives with a clear focus on successful student outcomes including program selection, retention, and graduation
- Directs and manages the Campus Assessment Team, a cross-campus, multi-departmental group that supports students who display concerning or disruptive behaviors; to connect students with needed campus and community resources; to recommend appropriate intervention strategies or disciplinary sanctions; and to monitor students for overall mental health and wellbeing
- Provide supervision to staff and mobilize a cross-functional team toward common goals.
- Support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through effective data informed assessment of supervised areas
- Oversees all aspects of the student advising process including faculty and staff training
- Oversee the support of students placed on academic probation
- Provides leadership, vision, and direction for a collaborative first year experience program
- Provides leadership and guidance in analysis, review, creation and interpretation of student policies and procedures for non-cadets
- Consults with faculty and staff pertaining to student behavior, advising, and student success;
- Engages and communicates with parents regarding student concerns
- Assists undergraduates in resolving complaints and grievances
- Assists with the development and implementation of initiatives that support the College's strategic plan and the goals of the division
- Liaison with the Coordinator of Veterans Success Center to support the needs of the Citadel's veteran students
Qualifications:
- A strong record of success as a supervisor, including but not limited to performance evaluation, professional development, setting individual goals, and assessment of performance effectiveness.
- Sensitive, diplomatic, and highly articulate in written and verbal communications with all constituencies.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population.
- Effective in all aspects of crisis management, including the ability to work collaboratively with others in managing crises.
- Evidence of making evidence-based (assessment driven) decisions, particularly with regards to student learning and development.
- Ability and commitment to professional development of direct reports.
- A high level of collegiality in working with other student focused departments as well as campus and community constituencies along with the ability to build collaborative relationships characterized by mutual respect and trust. Integrity, creativity, energy, and decisiveness along with the capacity to engage and inspire others.
- Experience in evaluating, refreshing and updating administrative policies, office systems and procedures within an educational setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations in higher education.
- Effectiveness in setting priorities and deadlines to ensure project goal and objectives are met.
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in Student Affairs Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or other related fields is required.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of professional, post-master's experience working in a higher education in Student Affairs or related area with increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory duties required.
- Knowledge of college student development theories, concepts, and practices and the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations.
- Familiarity with issues related to both undergraduate and graduate student experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D., Ed.D. or other terminal degree in higher education administration or related field preferred.
