Job Title: District Nurseย

Reports to: Assistant Superintendent

Work Schedule: Calendar Year

General Description:ย 


The District Nurse provides leadership and oversight of health services across Career Academy Network of Public Schools. This role ensures the delivery of safe, compliant, and high-quality nursing services to support student health, wellness, and academic success. The District Nurse serves as the network's clinical authority, developing health policies and procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance, supervising school-based health staff, and serving as a resource to students, families, and school leaders.


Qualifications:ย 

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Indiana required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience; school nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal school health regulations and reporting requirements.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Experience supervising or coordinating nursing or health staff preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Primary Responsibilities:ย 

  • Provide leadership and oversight of district-wide health and nursing services.
  • Serve as the clinical authority for the network on student health, safety, and wellness.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain network-wide health policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal health regulations, including immunization requirements, health screenings, medication administration, and reporting.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all school-based nurses, health aides, and other health services staff across the network.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to school administrators, teachers, and staff.
  • Coordinate care for students with chronic health conditions or medical needs.
  • Review and oversee Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), emergency action plans, and related health documentation.
  • Establish and monitor medication administration protocols, ensuring safe storage, documentation, and compliance.
  • Communicate with families, healthcare providers, and community agencies regarding student health needs.
  • Respond to health emergencies and provide clinical guidance during crisis situations.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on health procedures, emergency response, and communicable disease protocols.
  • Support attendance initiatives by addressing health-related barriers to student attendance.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Services, and Leadership teams to support student wellness.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and authorizer reporting related to health services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

School Activities:ย 

  • Support school-based health initiatives, screenings, and wellness programs.
  • Participate in professional development, leadership meetings, and network initiatives.
  • Attend meetings related to student support, safety, and wellness planning.
  • Travel between school sites as needed to support health services and staff.
