Job description

Apartment Therapy was originally launched in 2001 by interior designer Maxwell Ryan (nicknamed "The Apartment Therapist") as a weekly newsletter for clients. We officially became an independently-owned company in 2004, and since then Apartment Therapy Media has grown to become the only media group dedicated to life at home. We are committed to teaching our audience real-life solutions by giving them tools to create happy, healthy homes through our award-winning brands: Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. Together, our portfolio engages a monthly audience of 47 million users across platforms, while our dedicated team of over 140 professionals collaborates from our sunny New York City office and locations across the U.S. and around the globe.
Apartment Therapy Media is looking for a Director, Insights to lead the research and insights function across Apartment Therapy, The Kitchn, Cubby, and Dorm Therapy. This is a hands-on role for someone who has experience in consumer research and sales enablement in a media or publishing environment and is excited to turn audience data into revenue. You'll drive our thought leadership agenda, identifying whitespace and developing the custom research, white papers, and insights initiatives that keep us ahead of the market and open doors with new and existing partners. Plus, you'll develop the insights that our organization relies on every day, building data-backed rationales behind RFP responses and sales pitches, shaping how our brand story gets told across every client-facing touchpoint, and collaborating with various teams across AT Media.
Accountabilities:
  • Own Apartment Therapy Media's thought leadership roadmap, from identifying whitespace opportunities to developing and executing custom research, white papers, webinars, and other programs that strengthen our market position and drive revenue
  • Proactively identify emerging consumer, cultural, and industry trends, translating them into audience narratives and informing sales opportunities that position Apartment Therapy Media ahead of the market
  • Enable the revenue team to close direct sales business by building data-backed campaign rationales for RFP responses and sales pitches that demonstrate audience fit and performance potential to prospective partners
  • Use audience insights to develop Apartment Therapy Media's brand narrative into sellable formats across client-facing materials including general presentations, one sheets, custom meeting decks, our corporate website, media kits, case studies, and research reports
  • Work with clients and vendors to execute, analyze, and create materials summarizing campaign brand lift studies
  • Lead the development and analysis of reader surveys and related sales materials (decks, one-sheets, etc) utilizing tools such as Survey Monkey
  • Manage and grow Apartment Therapy Media's Home Team reader panel as a proprietary research asset, from recruitment through ongoing surveying
  • Own the company's relationships with all research vendors including Nielsen, DISQO, and Collective Audience. Stay up to date on new offerings from these partners, conduct trainings, and manage the research budget
  • Collaborate with departments across the company, including Content and Product, to lead audience research for special projects and new initiatives
  • Work with SVP, Marketing & Brand Strategy on insights efforts focused on long-term revenue and readership growth

Requirements:
  • 8-10+ years of experience in consumer insights, audience research, or sales research, preferably within media or publishing
  • Proven experience developing thought leadership programs, including custom research, trend reports, white papers, and/or other client-facing insights initiatives
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex data into compelling narratives
  • Experience supporting revenue-driving organizations
  • Expertise with syndicated research tools and audience measurement platforms (e.g., Nielsen, DISQO, or similar)
  • Experience designing, fielding, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative consumer research
  • Demonstrated ability to identify emerging consumer and cultural trends and translate them into actionable business opportunities
  • Exceptional communication skills, with experience creating client-facing decks and reports
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficiency with Keynote, Google Workspace, and survey platforms such as SurveyMonkey
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Genuine affinity for home, design, food, and lifestyle content is a plus

Salary range: $115,000 - $125,000 annually
The above represents the expected salary range for this role. Ultimately, compensation is determined by level of experience and other job-related factors.
