Full-Time | Exempt Position

Hybrid | Washington, DC (3 days in office)

Salary: $83k to $88k per year

Position Summary

The Director, Program Management works collaboratively across the organization to manage multi-year initiatives, strengthen program operations, and ensure successful implementation of strategic priorities. This role provides leadership and mentorship to a team that includes a Senior Program Manager and a Program Associate while partnering closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure program excellence and measurable impact.

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader, highly organized project manager, and collaborative problem-solver with experience managing complex programs involving multiple stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight and management of a portfolio of programs aligned with organizational priorities and funder requirements
  • Partner with leadership to define project scope, KPIs, timelines, and implementation strategies
  • Identify and proactively manage project risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Lead, mentor, and support a Senior Program Manager and Program Associate
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Development, Finance, Technology, and Operations teams to support organizational strategy and long-range planning
  • Serve as a primary liaison with external partners, funders, vendors, schools, and community stakeholders
  • Ensure programs are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by refining processes, reporting structures, and operational workflows
QualificationsRequired Experience
  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in program or project management, including oversight of complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff
  • Strong background in budgeting, scheduling, risk management, reporting, and program execution
  • Preferred experience working within education-focused environments, including K–12 education, school districts, nonprofits, or education partners
Education & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and communication skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
  • Working knowledge of project management and reporting tools such as Salesforce, Asana, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Work Environment & Travel

This position operates in a hybrid work environment with a combination of remote and in-office work. Travel to program sites, partner organizations, and events is required up to approximately 40% of the time.

The role is primarily sedentary and involves regular use of office and computer equipment. Occasional light lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required in support of program execution.
