Job description

The Director, Product Development plans, directs, and coordinates all aspects of new and enhanced products and services for the TIS division. This position develops and commercializes new and existing products and services with input from the market (clients, prospects, and carriers), as well as feedback received internally from various key departments.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Directs and oversees the product and services staff responsible for commercializing new ideas and ensuring their successful launch. This could include conducting initial ROI analyses and ongoing profitability monitoring.
  • Identifies and evaluates new product and service opportunities for TIS, analyzing the feasibility, market needs, and revenue opportunities for the organization.
  • Provides leadership on product conceptualization. Works with IT and other relevant TIS departments in the design, development, and launch of ideas and provides support throughout the product life cycle.
  • Defines the go-to-market strategy in collaboration with senior management.
  • Develops and implements a TIS product plan to meet business and product goals while aligning corporate strategy.
  • Responsible for the management and implementation of the TIS overall product strategy.
  • Tracks industry and competitive trends through research and development of strong client, prospect, and carrier relationships.
  • In compliance with company goals, develops staff performance standards and measures their effectiveness.
  • Ensures the proper level of staffing is maintained such that related expenses are representative of activity and divisional management goals.
  • Takes part in client advisory board meetings providing insight into future TIS product and service offerings, while obtaining knowledge concerning new products and services important to our customers.
  • Benchmarks competitive products to assess strengths and weaknesses.
  • Manages assigned projects to assure timely completion and attainment of project objectives.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Experience in product and service conceptualization, design, development, and commercialization.
  • Aptitude for determining the optimal way to position products and services in the market.
  • Experience in creating product and service offerings in a solutions-oriented service environment.
  • Working, detailed knowledge of business and accounting systems, preferably for the transportation expense management industry.
  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Experience managing and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high level of communications skills, both verbal and in writing, to communicate effectively externally and internally, with all levels of employees within any size company.
  • Experience in development and execution of business strategies and key initiatives.
  • Ability to be a self‑motivated, high initiative, and results oriented team player in an unstructured highly dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Some travel, including international, required.
MINIMUM LEVEL OF PREPARATION AND TRAINING NORMALLY REQUIRED:
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, management, supply chain or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in transportation related industries or service operations.
  • 5 -7 years of market research and product development management, or comparable experience in a complex, solutions-oriented sales environment requiring the identification and development of tailored service offerings.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
