Responsibilities:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for the performance of the Engineering Department staff; including room calls, painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and grounds keeping. The DOE oversees and controls the vendors called to the property for major repairs; maintains all equipment to ensure they are performing at their maximum levels and capacities; controls payrolls, expenses and responds to guest needs at all levels. Works in unison with the hotel operations team, restaurant, banquets and salon to handle any day to day issues and create a team atmosphere involving equipment and guest satisfaction.

The DOE oversees the security systems and fire panels requirements needed to keep the property safe and secure; in addition to supporting the efforts of creating additional security procedures. Institutes a secure key control system for guest room and hotel staff needs.

While the hotel is under renovation, the DOE may be required to attend construction meetings and support the construction efforts with daily efforts.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand and walk for long period of time.
  • The ability to lift and carry 30+ pounds.


Job Functions:

  • Hires, trains, disciplines staff for skills, knowledge and performance.
  • Works with the engineering team to create a productive and reliable engineering department.
  • Creates and generates new ideas and suggestions to improve the performance of the department.
  • Establishes a CARE program to ensure all guest rooms, public areas and back of the house is in five diamond condition.
  • Maintains a par of tools, supplies and equipment to ensure small repairs can be handled promptly.
  • Establishes Daily Checklists to maintain routine and ensure tasks are completed daily.
  • Maintains tracking log of daily room calls and ensures calls are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintains logs on all equipment readings, settings and tracings.
  • Maintains logs for key controls and secure areas.
  • Track all owners request, supplies, expenses and efforts requested of the engineering department.
  • Responsible for pool maintenance and conditions.
  • Reviews the Monthly HOTSOS Reports to identify and resolve any ongoing issues.
  • Supports the efforts of the hotel by working together with peers in other departments, hotel owners and their staff.
  • Supports the hotels goals by selecting competent and results oriented vendors.
  • Walk the property regularly - looking for issues that could result in problems and works at preventing them.
  • Follows the procedures of Purchasing, Receiving, Price Shopping and inventories as set by Hotel Controller.
  • Position participates in the MOD program
  • Other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:

  • 5 -year experience required as a Director of Engineer or Assistant DOE in a full service hotel or resort.
  • Strong Communication skills. Both verbal and written.
  • Fluent in speaking, reading and writing the English language
  • Certified in HVAC & refrigeration, electrical and plumbing
  • Computer literate
  • Multi task ability
