Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
Do you want to influence concrete pavement practices at a national level? Do you enjoy troubleshooting complex issues and making an impact beyond a single site or region?
If so, the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) at Iowa State University is currently seeking applicants for a Concrete Pavement Research Scientist! This position will be classified as a Research Scientist II.
What You'll Do:
  • Develop, write, and edit technical materials, including guides, manuals, reports, and publications
  • Review technical content for accuracy and contribute to research publications
  • Stay current with advancements in concrete pavement technology and related literature
  • Plan, organize, and deliver workshops, seminars, webinars, and training programs
  • Create training materials and present research findings to technical audiences
  • Represent the organization at conferences, committees, and professional events
  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting expertise to industry stakeholders
  • Identify research opportunities, help secure funding, and develop proposals and project scopes
  • Manage research projects end-to-end, including budgets, timelines, and reporting
  • Coordinate with external partners, consultants, and research teams
  • Support and mentor students in lab and field research activities
  • Assist with strategic planning and organizational initiatives

This is a one year fixed term position with the opportunity for renewal.
Nationwide travel will be involved in this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active progress toward obtaining licensure (e.g., passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in concrete pavements for airfields or roadways, or in concrete materials.
  • Experience writing technical reports, newsletters, or scholarly papers.
  • Experience managing projects.

Department Description:
The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center with the Institute for Transportation (InTrans) is a national hub for concrete pavement research and technology transfer at the intersection of public agencies, industry, and academia. The CP Tech Center was founded in 2000 and via research and tech transfer has been instrumental in advancing strategic improvements in how concrete pavements are specified, built, and maintained.
