ABOUT NEW SHOE DAY

New Shoe Day is Indiana’s Shoe Bank, a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit working toward one vision: a shoe-secure Indiana.

Through a central Shoe Bank and a growing network of Shoe Pantries and Shoe Drop projects hosted by schools, shelters, Boys & Girls Clubs, and youth programs, NSD provides new, name-brand footwear to youth across Indiana.

NSD runs more than 100 distribution projects each year, including single-day distributions of up to 3,500 pairs, and is on pace to triple its annual budget this year. The team is intentionally small and building the infrastructure required for statewide scale.

THE ROLE

The Director of Operations owns everything between a Community Partner requesting shoes and kids wearing them: supply chain, procurement, warehousing, fulfillment, partner operations, and the systems that run it all.

This is an ownership seat, not a coordinator seat.

The right person thinks like an entrepreneur and operates like an owner. They are energized by ambiguity, enjoy building from scratch, and understand that the decisions made in this role will shape how NSD scales for years.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Shoe Bank Operations

• Manage vendor and distributor relationships, quoting, and requests for proposals.
• Purchase footwear at volume and continually improve NSD’s cost per pair.
• Design and build NSD’s warehousing and inventory operation, including space, layout, inventory tracking, receiving, and fulfillment processes.
• Manage shipping, delivery, and fulfillment across pantry restocks and project-based distributions.

Partner Operations

• Own the operational side of the Community Partner experience, including intake, needs scoping, order planning, delivery coordination, and follow-through.
• Build the processes that consistently deliver on partner commitments and support long-term partner satisfaction and renewal.
• Help design NSD’s account-management infrastructure as the organization and team grow.

Systems, Process, and Automations

• Own NSD’s operational technology stack, including the CRM, partner ordering tools, order and inventory tracking, and restock cadence.
• Build workflows for partner ordering, fulfillment tracking, restock triggers, notifications, and reporting.
• Apply automation and AI tools to eliminate manual work across intake, procurement, partner communication, and data capture.
• Build partner-facing infrastructure that allows Community Partners to self-serve wherever possible.
• Treat every recurring manual task as a process-design opportunity.

Impact & Execution

• Build systems that capture core impact data, including pairs, dollars, children, partners, and communities served.
• Establish lightweight, recurring methods for measuring partner outcomes.
• Produce the data foundation needed for partner renewals, sponsor reporting, grant applications, and statewide expansion.
• Lead operational execution for back-to-school season, partner events, and restock cycles.
• Support NSD events and distributions as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Demonstrated experience in supply chain, distribution, logistics, or operations, ideally including building operational capability rather than only running it.
• Experience in relationship or account management with responsibility for revenue, renewal, or partner outcomes.
• Strong systems and technology aptitude, including experience building or automating processes and tools.
• An entrepreneurial, ownership-driven mindset and genuine commitment to ending shoe insecurity for Indiana youth.
• Strong organization, independent judgment, and comfort operating without an established playbook.
• Confidence representing NSD with partners, vendors, and community stakeholders.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel within Indiana.

ROLE DETAILS

• Reports to: Executive Director
• Location: Central Indiana / Indianapolis metro. Hybrid, with regular on-site work at NSD warehouse space and partner locations statewide.
• Classification: Full-time, exempt
• Salary range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a hands-on role. Duties include regular warehouse work, lifting and moving boxed inventory weighing up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods during events and distributions, and statewide travel. Occasional evening and weekend availability is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
