Job description

Job Description:

Confluent Medical Technologiesis a financially healthy and rapidly growing medical device company whose employees are passionate about providing life-saving solutions to our customers through a collaborative and high-impact work environment. Our moderate size, diversity of technologies, and broad material science capabilities provide an environment in which our employees can develop broad skill sets and directly influence product development and manufacturing outcomes.

The Director, Operations Finance serves as the finance business partner to Confluent's Chief Operating Officer, including Operations and Supply Chain leadership. This role owns the financial performance of the Company's business units, production lines, and value streams at the P&L level, drives inventory discipline across all manufacturing locations, and leads capital expenditure planning for the plant network. The Director, Operations Finance leads the Plant Controlling organization, responsible for labor capacity management, overhead expenses, variable costs, and profitability, and partners closely with Plant and Operations leadership to translate operational performance into clear financial results and actionable recommendations.

This position has oversight of the finance leaders at each Confluent manufacturing facility and provides data-driven insight to the Senior Leadership Team on business unit, production line, and value stream profitability, inventory management, and capital deployment. Key to this role is dissecting actual results, taking action to drive operational improvement, and determining how those items impact the forecast.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Unit P&L & Inventory Management

  • Own the financial performance of Confluent's business units, production lines, and value streams, partnering with Plant leadership to deliver P&L results against budget, forecast, and prior period.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual forecast processes for the business units, including margin analysis, mix analysis, price/cost bridges, and profitability by product and customer, including achieving product profitability scoped at program inception.
  • Assess opportunities and risks through analysis of forecasts, leading in-depth variance and trending analyses for key profitability drivers, including income variance analysis, and articulate actionable recommendations to maximize profitability.
  • Dissect actual results to identify root causes, take action to drive operational improvement, and determine how those items impact the forecast.
  • Own the Risks & Opportunities (R&O) process across the business units, ensuring R&Os are substantiated by the underlying revenue and cost assumptions embedded in the forecast rather than qualitative judgment.
  • Enforce budget adherence as a statement of company priorities, requiring executive approval for deviations, and tie financial and operational changes to their EBITDA impact.
  • Drive recurring weekly and monthly operating reviews of labor and material cost variances and spending.
  • Responsible for the Company's monthly Trend Reviews, leading materials for Senior Executives that discuss business unit, production line, and value stream performance and key financial metrics.
  • Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, and Commercial teams to manage the Sales, Inventory & Operational Planning (SIOP) process.
  • Owns gross inventory, reserves, cycle counting, and operational metrics across plants.

Capital Expenditures & Investment Analysis

  • Lead the capital planning process across all manufacturing plants, including evaluation, prioritization, and post-investment tracking of capital projects.
  • Lead return on investment analyses, make-versus-buy evaluations, what-if scenarios, and other financial evaluations supporting capital decisions, including ownership of the Company's Capital Asset Requisition (CAR) process.
  • Evaluate, review, and recommend approval of capital expenditures and significant operating expenses.
  • Partner with plant leadership on cross-plant capital investments, new program launches, and consolidation initiatives.

Operations Leadership

  • Provide leadership and strategic oversight to the plant finance teams, including financial leadership and decision support in support of Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings.
  • Set and enforce the standard of rigor for the plant controller/finance manager organization, ensuring data-driven, EBITDA-first reporting and full ownership of P&L results and forecast across all sites.
  • Own the monthly Trend Review process across all sites, ensuring each site controller's package ties actuals, variance drivers, and forecast impact to a clear, defensible financial narrative for Senior Leadership.
  • Champion lean principles with standardized, repeatable reporting, and forecasting across controller organization.
  • Review and evaluate key operational and financial data with plant leadership, helping drive root cause analyses and corrective action plans to achieve targets.
  • Drive the annual planning process for business units, developing a robust operating plan tied to strategic initiatives.
  • Lead talent development, coaching, and performance management for finance team members across the manufacturing plants.
  • Work closely with the COO, CFO, Director, FP&A, VP of Supply Chain, and Corporate Controller to develop consistent controls, policies, and procedures across the plant network.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and/or Finance required; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Cost Accounting, Controllership, FP&A, or Business Analysis with a strong focus on manufacturing operations; minimum of 5 years of people management experience required.
  • Medical device and/or manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ownership of business unit P&L results, inventory management, and capital planning in a multi-site manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to instill financial rigor, accountability, and a data-driven, EBITDA-first standard of reporting across a distributed finance team.
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to lead and influence others outside of direct-reporting lines; unwavering commitment to excellence.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and articulate financial results and actionable recommendations to non-finance audiences.
  • Expertise in costing, financial modeling, scenario/sensitivity analysis, and ROI analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to analyze and present large data sets.
  • Familiarity with Epicor (ERP) and Adaptive Planning beneficial; experience with upper-tier ERP/EPM tools preferred (e.g., Oracle, SAP, D365, TM1, Hyperion).
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Professional proficiency in Spanish is preferred and will enable effective collaboration with employees, customers, and business partners across multiple regions.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support business needs, including an expectation to spend 1-2 weeks per month at the Company's Costa Rica facility.
