This position supports the Fabrication Studios, CIA's school-wide fabrication facilities, and plays a key role in providing students, faculty, and staff with a safe, organized, and effective environment for learning and creative production.
Working closely with faculty and Studio Operations staff during the academic year, the Studio Technician supports the delivery of curriculum through the management of studio facilities, equipment, materials, supply stores, and specialized programs. The Studio Technician also supports Federal Work-Study student employees as needed and contributes to projects involving studio improvements, archives management, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), HAZWOPER compliance, and other operational needs.
The ideal candidate will possess broad working knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, and techniques, as well as a demonstrated commitment to safe studio practices. Candidates should be comfortable working with students at varying skill levels and able to explain technical concepts in a clear and supportive manner. Successful candidates must be able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, collaborate effectively with faculty and staff, and identify opportunities for operational improvements that enhance the student experience and support departmental goals.
A BFA or BA in Art and Design, a bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent professional experience is required.
This position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance and to stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position that works during the academic year, from August through mid-May. CIA has a 35-hour work week.
