The main difference is that the Director Of Social Work typically holds leadership responsibilities, overseeing programs and teams, while a Social Worker focuses on direct client services. The role of a director of social work is to manage a facility’s day-to-day operations, admitting and discharging residents, and directing comprehensive social service programs. Your responsibilities include meeting with residents and their families to help develop a discharge plan, including therapy, working with home care agencies and reimbursement coordinators. Other duties include completing social service assessments, resolving grievances, and providing social support to residents if required. As a team leader, you help coordinate the services needed for residents to have a smooth transition back into their communities. You also maintain consistent communication with families during each resident’s stay at your center. There are positions available in a variety of facilities including rehabilitation centers, long-term care, mental health care facilities, non-profits, hospitals, and nursing homes. Non-profits require you to organize fundraising events and promotions as needed.

Therapists are responsible for conducting therapeutic services for patients, interviewing and developing the psychological history, assessing the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, developing appropriate treatment objectives, and treatment plan updates for patients. Therapists conduct family sessions prior to discharge. Therapists act as the patients’ and families’ primary contact during the patient’s stay at the facility, as well as their advocate with the treatment team. Therapists are also liaisons with outside agencies and individuals for the purpose of developing and coordinating discharge planning with the treatment team and family.Any other duties as assigned.
