Our operations include full container load (FCL), less than container load (LCL), refrigerated cargo, warehousing, and comprehensive logistics solutions.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Director, Risk Management, Insurance and Claims to lead our claims processing and risk mitigation efforts. This executive-level role will oversee all aspects of cargo and ship claims, insurance programs, and legal coordination to minimize financial exposure and ensure operational resilience. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in maritime insurance, claims handling, and risk management within the shipping industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the end-to-end processing of all cargo claims, including damage, loss, delay, and related disputes.
  • Oversee claims related to vessels, ships, and operational incidents.
  • Direct the company's comprehensive insurance portfolio.
  • Negotiate with insurers, brokers, and underwriters to secure optimal coverage.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and legal risks.
  • Collaborate closely with external attorneys on litigation, arbitration, and all legal cases arising from claims or incidents.
  • Lead investigations into claims and incidents, ensuring compliance with international maritime regulations (e.g., Hague-Visby Rules, U.S. COGSA).
  • Prepare reports for executive leadership on claims trends, risk exposure, and financial impacts.
  • Build and lead a high-performing claims and risk team, fostering a culture of excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Law, Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., JD, MBA) or professional certifications (e.g., ARM, CPCU, Chartered Insurance Institute) highly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in claims and risk management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the maritime, shipping, or logistics industry.
  • Proven expertise in handling cargo claims.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a broad operational insurance portfolio, including P&I Clubs, Hull & Machinery (H&M), Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Marine Cargo Insurance, Warehouse Legal Liability / Warehouseman's Liability, Commercial Auto / Fleet Insurance, Container / Equipment Insurance, Terminal Operators Liability, General Liability (with Marine Extensions), Bailee Liability, Errors & Omissions (E&O), Professional Liability, Cyber Liability, and Crime & Fidelity.
  • Strong knowledge of maritime law, international conventions, and U.S. regulations relevant to ocean shipping.
  • Experience working with P&I clubs, marine insurers, and legal counsel on complex claims and disputes.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage insurance renewals and reduce overall risk exposure.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present to executive teams and external stakeholders.
