The Center for Theology and Ethics in Catholic Health (CTECH) aims at excellence in providing comprehensive resources for faithfully exploring how Catholic health can promote human flourishing by drawing on the Church's teaching and the best expression of Catholic theological ethics.CTECH is sponsored by the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA).

The Director of Research reports to the Senior Director and is responsible for advancing the Center's research agenda by developing scholarly publications, white papers, position statements, and educational resources in theology, ethics, bioethics, and health humanities. The Director contributes to the research and writing of the Center, serves as Managing Editor of the Journal of Theology & Ethics in Catholic Health (JTECH), and contributes to the general operations of the Center’s work.

Working closely with the Executive Director and Senior Director, the Director of Research will identify emerging ethical issues affecting Catholic health care, conduct and supervise research projects, including writing, revising, and editing, manage publication initiatives, cultivate relationships with scholars and practitioners, and contribute to the Center's public engagement through communications and media. The Director will work collaboratively with Center leadership, the JTECH Editorial Board, the CTECH Advisory Board, and CHA staff to advance the Center's mission and strategic priorities. Some travel is required.

• Conduct and contribute to research in Catholic and moral theology, health care ethics, bioethics, and related disciplines, staying attuned to emerging issues in Catholic health care.
• Develop and support a range of scholarly and educational content, including publications, journal articles, and multimedia resources.
• Serve as Managing Editor of the Journal of Theology & Ethics in Catholic Health (JTECH) , overseeing submissions, peer review, editorial workflows, and publication timelines.
• Maintain high standards of scholarly integrity, editorial quality, and professional ethics across all research and publications.
• Engage with academic, professional, and health care communities through collaboration, presentations, and partnerships.
• Manage relationships with authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and other key stakeholders.
• Provide substantive editing and ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality across all Center communications and publications.
• Partner with CHA Communication and Marketing to support productionand promotion of digital content, including podcasts such as Ethics on Call , and social media.
• Support strategies to expand the visibility, reach, and impact of the Center’s work and thought leadership.
• Contribute to operational and administrative functions, including advisory board support, serving as secretary to the CTECH Advisory Board, and special projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Center’s mission.

St. Louis, MO, with the ability to work from home subject to CHA’s policies on flexible work arrangements.

• Ph.D. in Catholic theology, moral theology, bioethics, health care ethics, or a closely related discipline required.
• 2+ years of progressive experience in theology, ethics, bioethics, academic research, scholarly publishing, or Catholic health care.
• Demonstrated experience conducting high-level, original research and analysis, managing complex projects, and producing high-quality scholarly and professional publications. Experience with peer-reviewed journals and editorial processes preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of Catholic theology, particularly Catholic moral theology, Catholic social teaching, health care ethics, bioethics, and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services .
• Respect for Magisterial teaching as well as an understanding of how Church teaching develops.
• Strong understanding of scholarly publishing and peer-review processes.
• Ability to communicate complex theological and ethical concepts to health care professionals and academics.
• Ability to collaboratively implement both short-term priorities and long-term strategic goals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate the Center's mission, vision, and products to internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong interpersonal skills exhibiting professionalism and diplomacy with internal and external constituencies.
• Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communications strategies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
