Director of Engineering


The ideal candidate will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the R&D engineering department with emphasis on new product design and launch, continuous improvements, and cost savings.


Responsibilities:

  • Leads and directs the engineering team to obtain optimum productivity, exceed project goals, and train the entry-level engineers
  • Manages staff selection, performance, development and training processes to ensure team competencies and capabilities to reach the business goals and expectations
  • Responsible for developing and implementing manufacturing methods, ensuring the highest quality, lowest cost, lowest scrap, and optimum capacity
  • Guide design/manufacturing concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques to include standard work
  • Quotes, purchases, and inspects new equipment required for ongoing efficient operation of process and implementation of new processes
  • Assists in the development of processes and procedures to drive improvements and best practices
  • Determines and reviews all manufacturing processes for cost-effectiveness and feasibility, both before and after engineering releases to manufacturing
  • Assists with engineering releases and changes relative to routings, setting standards, data entry, and follow-up
  • Participates in design reviews and responsible for improving the design for manufacturability early in the design phase of new product development
  • Conduct a continuous search of new materials, fixtures, processes and procedures to enhance and improve the production lines to help the operation reduce overall costs
  • Work closely with the quality and operations teams to manage root cause analysis and corrective actions related to internal and/or external quality concerns
  • Lead and assist the training of production employees in best practices of setting up equipment and tooling, maintaining processes, and troubleshooting problems


Qualifications:

  • Must have experience in new product launch and program implementation
  • Advanced knowledge of Power Supply Manufacturing concepts and techniques
  • Ability to teach, coach, and mentor entry level engineers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize with changing situations
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to drive tasks to completion
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and work well under pressure
  • Ability to communicate accurately and comfortably with all levels of management
  • Must be able to efficiently and accurately create and modify engineering drawings
  • Motivated self-starter that is able to productively work alone and in groups to solve problems
  • Proficient in English (ready, writing & verbal skills)


Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education. MSEE preferred
  • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • 15+ years’ experience
