Job Summary
This position contains the responsibility of design and development of products and to provide technical assistance for the marketing, manufacture, testing, sale, and application of Belden's products. Each Engineer is responsible for at least $50MM of product. Product responsibility will cover products manufactured in all plants of Belden. End use of products will be national and international.
You will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Design and develop advanced products (design specifications, materials, finished product, packaging, testing, etc.) and systems to customer specifications, consistent with lowest cost and within manufacturing capabilities. Identify emerging product technologies and product applications and develop design relationships and equations for product design and development. Develop product tests, new test procedures, and test systems that effectively and efficiently support product development and product application. Protect Belden's intellectual properties, create, and review new product designs for potential patentability.
  • Maintain and update standard product line and specifications for continued cost effectiveness and manufacturability. Work with manufacturing to identify design improvements that increase product value by lower scrap, increased throughput, or lower standard cost. Includes maintaining technical accuracy of all product and engineering databases, processes and procedures, reference materials, and engineering/sales/marketing collateral.
  • Improve the product design database and engineering systems through establishment of improved design equations through either theoretical or empirical studies that expand design capability and accuracy to new product applications and improve cycle time. Assists in the upgrade, modification, or implementation of engineering related systems.
  • Work with sales and marketing to identify market technology drivers and to establish relationships with appropriate drivers. Participate in industry standards activities. Review and Design of established industry, governmental or customer requirements and standards to assure compliance with advanced and/or future product development needs.
  • Maintain project and test logs and records and prepare reports to complete engineering project or test program.
  • Research, collect, and report information on company (and competitor) products, equipment functionality and capability. Act as technical liaison to the sales/marketing team. Assist sales and marketing on technical product and systems related issues. Assist Pricing and Sales on new product quotes and orders. Prepare input for technical bulletins, application notes, trade articles, and technical papers as required to support the Belden product line.
  • Provide technical training to selected Belden customers and Belden internal functions as required to support the introduction and success of new products. Assist Sales/Marketing with customer development.
  • Must be capable of complying with Company Attendance Policy. Must be willing to travel on short notice within The Americas to customer sites in case of critical cable failure or other circumstance as identified by Engineering Management.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

What you will bring:
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is preferred with a minimum of five to seven (5-7) years electronic cable design or equivalent experience.
  • Markets - Knowledge of Wire & Cable markets
  • Required Skills - MS Office programs, written and oral fluency in English.

Applicants can expect a base compensation range of $50,000 - 65,000 annually, plus benefits and additional incentives based on the level of the role. This is the reasonable estimate that Belden believes it might pay for this job based on applicable circumstances at the time of posting. Belden may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law, and commensurate with the applicant's experience, qualifications, and geographical location.
