Overview:
The Senior Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives, SDOSI, plays a key role at One Generation Fund, OneGen, helping shape and deliver the strategic impact of the organization and its mission. Reporting to the Executive Director, the SDOSI is a key member of the leadership team and has responsibilities for the organization’s day-to-day operations, team and project management, technology, human resources and team culture and internal communication. The SDOSI supervises staff, fellows and contractors and offers cycles of support and accountability.

Job Duties:
Day-to-Day Operations:
  • Work closely with the ED to build organizational infrastructure and efficiencies.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to ensuring the organization is on the right path.
  • Develop plans and manage deliverables for internal partnerships.
  • Implement systems and progress monitoring to ensure operational effectiveness, accountability and resource stewardship.
  • Document, implement and update operating policies, procedures and protocols, all in alignment with organizational values.
  • Support Finance team processes including: budgeting; fund management; procurement; vendor relationships; internal controls; adhering to financial policies and procedures; and support tracking of grants reports and obligations.
  • Interface with professional services consultants and evaluate performance.
  • Respond to the shifting landscape and energy of a start-up environment.
  • Identify potential operational risks and work with the ED to develop strategies to manage and mitigate risk and work toward viable solutions and sustainable operations.

Project Management:
  • Co-create project goals, schedules, progress monitoring tools and action items to accomplish strategic goals and outcomes.
  • Manage internal systems where project plans are shared and transparent.
  • Support team members when projects need course correction.

Technology and Communication systems:
  • Manage technology needs and providers to ensure data safety and security.
  • Identify and champion streamlining technology across team functions.
  • Manage policy and compliance for cybersecurity, data privacy, data retention and IT governance.

Team Culture and Development:
  • Ensure people systems are aligned with organizational values and goals.
  • Strengthen leadership capacity through clear expectations and performance standards, including performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Supervise team members - meeting monthly to thought partner, support development and ensure progress on work plans and performance goals.
  • Conduct bi-annual performance evaluations with each team member and 90 day reviews for new employees.
  • Ensure team members receive timely and appropriate training and development.
  • Coordinate team wellness gatherings, quarterly step-backs, and core convenings.
  • Support identification of a pipeline of talented people to broaden partnerships.
Internal Communication:
  • Co-create messaging with ED to share regular updates with team members.
  • Act as a point of contact when ED is unavailable.
  • Field operational questions from team members.
  • Support ED’s Board relations - coordinating, preparing materials, attending and following up on Board and Committee meetings as requested by ED, ensuring timely, accurate and strategic communication.
Qualities:
  • Understanding of the cultural, social, relations and economic issues affecting Tribal communities.
  • Experience working in Indigenous led, Native serving and community based organizations.
  • Values-alignment and Ethos congruent with OneGen.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in operations and management.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong background in nonprofit financial management including budgeting, grants administration, government contracts, forecasting, financial reporting, audits and internal controls. 
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, manage and transition staff effectively.
  • Track record of success in driving organizational change.
  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations for programs and review large scale written reports impacting key focus areas of the fund.
  • Experience in start-ups and the non-profit sector, specifically philanthropy.
  • Proven ability to generate revenue, including earned revenue and/or fundraising.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, bilingual is a plus.
  • Ability to listen well and positively represent the organization and its mission.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace; familiarity with Quickbooks, Rippling and Ramp preferred.

Additional Info:
Full-time salary range $135,000-$150,000.00 commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) and PTO.
