About this Job Louisiana State University in Shreveport seeks an enthusiastic, student-centered, and detail-oriented professional to serve as Assistant Director of Online Learning. This position supports the advancement of high-quality, accessible, and inclusive online learning at LSUS. The Assistant Director of Online Learning will collaborate with partners across the campus to strengthen online and hybrid course quality, ensure alignment with accessibility and RSI expectations and support strategic initiatives related to digital, hybrid, and technology-enhanced teaching and learning.
This is a high-impact position reporting directly to the Chief Online Learning Officer and working in close partnership with deans, program directors, department chairs, and faculty. Although supervisory responsibilities are limited, this position exercises functional authority over the Online Learning department in the absence of the Chief Online Learning Officer. This is a full-time, salaried/exempt position, with occasional evening and weekend hours required.

Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in relevant or related academic field Three years of relevant experience with digital accessibility and educational technology Knowledge and experience with appropriate federal and state laws/standards that relate to online learning (ADA, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0, etc.) Experience using standard software application packages and educational technology tools to develop accessible instructional materials (MS Office, Adobe, Open Educational Resources, NCADEMI etc.) Two years or more of experience using course management systems and collaborative tools (Moodle, Zoom, etc.) Demonstrated ability to deliver effective accessibility training in a one-on-one or group setting either face-to-face or online Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver training materials and presentations to a diverse group of people in a professional context Demonstrated ability to collect, organize, and report data in support of continuous improvement initiatives Strong planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with quick deadlines Ability to develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree Familiarity with multiple learning management systems (Moodle, Blackboard, etc.) for instructional and course/program development Working knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) pedagogies and educational accessibility principles, current theories, models and exemplary practices in higher education Two years or more of experience teaching/training users (instructors, staff, students) effective uses of accessible instructional design technologies Job Specification Core Competencies: Communication: Ability to adjust communication style to suite the audience/customer/situation Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in group settings Service to Customer and LSUS: Ability to focus on providing positive experiences for stakeholders Delivering Results: Ability to focus on achieving outcomes Problem Solving: Ability to overcome barriers to success Leading Others: Ability to inspire, guide, and support individuals and teams towards achieving common goals Physical and Environmental Demands: Light work-exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are more than those for Sedentary Work
Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls. Job Duties and Other Information Duties and Responsibilities: Collaborate with deans, department chairs, program directors, and faculty about pedagogical best practices in online learning Develop and helpfacilitateworkshops, training sessions, and faculty development opportunities in collaboration with CELT focused on UDL principles, digital accessibility, accessible course materials, and inclusive online teaching practices Provide one-on-one and group training to support the development, revision, and remediation of accessible course materials, including documents, multimedia, assessments, and other online learning activities Provide guidance on accessibility considerations related to Open Education Resources (OER), including document structure, captions, and transcripts, alternative text, licensing, format options, and compatibility with assistive technologies Collaborate with faculty, librarians, deans, department chairs, the bookstore, and other campus partners to promote the use of accessible, high-quality, and appropriately licensed OER in online and hybrid courses Use existing software such as Blackboard Ally or similar tools, along with additional metrics and reporting methods to monitor the progress of accessible online course materials, creating relevant reports as needed for the Chief Online Learning Officer (COLO) Maintain professional expertise with best practices in online learning to collaborate with online faculty to explore new, innovative technologies and remove institutional barriers for distance education Provideexpert guidanceregardingRSI related rules and regulations, ensuring best practices for interaction and delivery of online classes Organize and manage faculty consultations, open labs, Online Learning initiatives, and related online faculty support services as necessary Maintain records, including necessary consultation notes, project timelines, status updates, course developmentdocumentation, and final reports Collect, analyze, and report data related to instructional design activities, course development projects, faculty support, student engagement, and instructional improvement efforts Use data, research, faculty feedback, and student-centered evidence to make recommendations for improvements to Online Learning services and instructional support processes Participate with the COLO in strategic and long-range planning for online, digital, and technology-enhanced learning at LSUS Supervise graduate assistants engaged in online learning accessibility-related activities Perform other duties related to online learning, instructional design, accessibility, and OER as needed Report to the COLO How to Apply: No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
