The Role: Director of Data Center Construction
As Director of Data Center Construction, you will lead regional construction execution across multiple Switch data center projects. You will be accountable for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to established quality standards.
You will lead construction managers and project teams, set regional priorities, allocate resources, and maintain consistent execution across active projects. This role partners closely with Program Management, Data Center Operations, Engineering, and other internal teams while overseeing contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and other external partners.
Success in this role requires clear decision-making, disciplined project execution, early identification of risk, and consistent accountability across teams and projects.
What You'll Do
  • Lead regional construction teams and managers across multiple active data center projects.
  • Set construction priorities, resource plans, execution strategies, and delivery timelines.
  • Own regional project performance across schedule, budget, safety, and quality.
  • Oversee the development and execution of construction plans, project scopes, schedules, and delivery requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, monitor spend, and adjust plans to maintain financial targets.
  • Review and approve contracts and commercial commitments with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with applicable safety requirements, regulations, and Switch standards.
  • Establish and maintain consistent quality control processes across projects.
  • Identify construction, schedule, cost, and delivery risks early and ensure mitigation plans are implemented.
  • Resolve escalated issues that affect project delivery, safety, quality, cost, or performance.
  • Partner with Program Management, Data Center Operations, Engineering, and other internal teams to maintain alignment throughout project delivery.
  • Monitor contractor and vendor performance and address issues that affect project outcomes.
  • Communicate project status, risks, decisions, and outcomes clearly to senior leadership.
  • Drive consistent construction processes, standards, and execution practices across the region.
  • Develop construction managers and project leaders through clear expectations, feedback, coaching, and accountability.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive construction leadership experience, including experience as a Construction Director, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, or comparable role.
  • Experience delivering data center or mission-critical infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience leading construction teams across multiple projects or locations.
  • Experience managing and developing construction managers or project leaders.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and vendor performance.
  • Experience delivering large-scale commercial or industrial construction projects.
  • Working knowledge of civil, structural, electrical, and mechanical construction disciplines.
  • Experience identifying and managing project risks, schedule impacts, and construction issues.
  • Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, and project delivery practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field teams, business partners, contractors, and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Procore or similar construction management platforms.
  • Familiarity with CAD, BIM, or 3D design tools.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or regional data center construction programs.
