About the Role
The Assistant Director of Aviation Security supports JSX's day-to-day security operations and partners closely with the Director, Aviation Security across security assessments, investigations, regulatory compliance, and relationships with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), law enforcement, and other government and industry partners.
This role is designed to progressively assume greater ownership of JSX's aviation security program. You'll work alongside the Director to develop a deep understanding of existing programs, regulatory relationships, open matters, and operational priorities while becoming a trusted secondary point of contact for regulators and internal stakeholders. As the transition progresses, you'll take on increasing Director-level responsibilities to help ensure continuity of JSX's security programs and leadership.
This is an in-person role based at JSX Headquarters in Dallas, TX.
A Day in the Life
In this role, you'll:
- Partner with the Director of Aviation Security on security-related functions, assuming progressively greater ownership as the leadership transition advances.
- Work directly with Crewmembers, inspectors, regulators, law enforcement, airports, and other federal, state, and local agency partners.
- Support the supervision, development, direction, and evaluation of Security team members.
- Serve as, or support, the Alternate Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator (AOSC), with the intent of assuming the designation as part of the transition.
- Learn, maintain, and support corporate security manuals, internal security resources, Security Directives, and threat information relevant to JSX operations.
- Support compliance with passenger and Crewmember screening and vetting requirements, watchlists, customs and immigration vetting, and other applicable security regulations.
- Monitor and analyze security, intelligence, counterintelligence, and insider threat programs.
- Partner with the Director on federal security matters, developing relationships with regulators, airports, and agency counterparts in preparation for assuming greater ownership of those relationships.
- Support the development of proposals, briefings, and presentations for federal agencies and JSX executive leadership.
- Provide guidance on security content incorporated into initial and recurrent training programs across the organization.
- Support administration of the company's security clearance program, including Crewmember screening, documentation, regulatory compliance, and training coordination.
- Participate as a member of the Emergency Response Team when required by security needs.
- Share on-call responsibility for security-related operational issues involving internal stakeholders, TSA, DHS, FBI, law enforcement, and other government entities, building toward full 24/7 ownership.
- Support and lead security briefings for Crewmembers and leadership as assigned.
- Assist with and respond to Letters of Investigation and other security-related regulatory correspondence, including current open matters.
- Support required annual audits for TSA security programs, including CASS, KCM, and CHRC.
- Assist with responses to law enforcement inquiries and legal requests involving Customer information and documentation.
- Represent JSX at industry meetings and conferences alongside or on behalf of the Director.
- Travel extensively, including potential international travel, weekends, and early operating hours, to assess regulatory compliance across JSX stations.
- Assume additional responsibilities as the transition plan progresses toward broader aviation security leadership accountability.
Why You'll Love This Role
- Step Into Strategic Leadership: Work directly alongside JSX's Aviation Security Director while progressively assuming greater responsibility for an enterprise-level security program.
- Protect the Operation: Your work will directly support the security and integrity of JSX Crewmembers, Customers, stations, and operations.
- Build Critical Government Relationships: Develop trusted partnerships with TSA, DHS, CBP, law enforcement, airports, and other regulatory stakeholders.
- Lead Through Complexity: Apply your security expertise and judgment to regulatory matters, investigations, emerging threats, and operational challenges.
- Shape the Future of Aviation Security: Help preserve continuity while identifying opportunities to strengthen JSX's security programs for the future.
What Makes a Successful Assistant Director of Aviation Security?
We're looking for someone who is:
- Security-Minded: You bring a strong foundation in aviation or transportation security and can quickly contribute to complex regulatory matters.
- Decisive: You exercise sound judgment and remain composed when security issues carry significant operational consequences.
- Analytical: You can interpret security data, intelligence, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends to identify risks and recommend action.
- Influential: You establish credibility quickly and can build trusted relationships with Crewmembers, executives, regulators, and government partners.
- Communicative: You're comfortable delivering sensitive information through written correspondence, operational briefings, and executive-level presentations.
- Adaptable: You can quickly absorb an established security program, take on increasing responsibility, and respond effectively as operational needs evolve.
- Entrepreneurial: You take ownership, anticipate emerging risks, and look for practical ways to strengthen JSX's security programs and protect the operation.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher, 7+ years of experience in a security and intelligence role, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in a security regulatory program management environment, ideally within a Part 121 or Part 135 air carrier or comparable aviation or transportation operation.
- Experience managing personnel responsible for sensitive or confidential information.
- Working familiarity with the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, airport operations, host-government requirements, and criminal justice systems, with the ability to contribute to regulatory matters with minimal ramp-up.

- Ability to successfully complete required criminal history background checks and pre-employment drug screening.
- Authorization to work in the United States.

- 10+ years of security and intelligence experience.

- Working knowledge of regulations governing commercial aviation, particularly Part 135 operations.
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
- IATA Security Management System (SeMS) or ACE qualification.
