The Director of Clinical Informatics & Digital Acceleration for the Pacific Northwest (PNW) plays a critical leadership role in advancing this vision across Washington and Oregon, supporting over one million patients and nearly 1,000 employed physicians and advanced practice clinicians in the market.
This leader will be responsible for driving the execution, adoption, and optimization of clinical technologies and digital services across the PNW market. Acting as a senior business and clinical informatics leader, the Director will oversee a dynamic digital portfolio and ensure delivery of end to end solutions that address unmet needs, create measurable value, and support a fully integrated digital ecosystem.
The role partners closely with clinical, operational, and technology leaders to modernize care delivery, enable AI driven and digital first models of care, and transform underlying workflows to support scale, sustainability, and superior clinician and patient experiences.
The Director of Clinical Informatics & Digital Acceleration provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and execution excellence across the market's clinical technology initiatives.
If you are located in Western WA (able to go into Everett & Seattle locations weekly), you will have the flexibility to work remotely* as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Management
- Leads the development and execution of actionable digital strategies aligned with enterprise and market priorities
- Owns and manages a portfolio of clinical technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with business objectives, timelines, budgets, and expected value
- Identifies risks, dependencies, and opportunities across the portfolio; proactively escalates issues and recommends solutions to senior leadership and executive sponsors
- Clearly articulates and documents product visions, roadmaps, business cases, and value realization plans
Digital Transformation & Innovation
- Drives adoption and optimization of EHR and clinical digital solutions to improve care delivery, clinician efficiency, and patient experience
- Partners with digital capability owners, product leaders, and cross functional teams to design and deploy end to end digital capabilities
- Champions intelligent automation, AI enabled workflows, and scalable digital solutions that modernize clinical operations
- Brings thought leadership on healthcare, technology, and market trends to identify and develop new opportunities
Operational Excellence & Change Leadership
- Establishes effective governance, structures, and processes to support consistent implementation and adoption
- Partners closely with Operations to lead and manage organizational change
- Ensures high quality execution within expected timeframes and budgets; monitor progress and communicate transparently with stakeholders
- Develops sustainable support models to ensure long term success of deployed solutions
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Builds and maintains solid partnerships with Technology, Operations, Quality, Finance, Revenue Cycle, Legal, Compliance, and Clinical Leadership
- Represents the PNW market in national Optum Health forums and committees, including EHR governance, patient experience, AI enablement, and practice modernization
- Contributes to go to market strategies, messaging, and value propositions for digital solutions and services
Performance & Business Acumen
- Defines and monitors performance metrics for digital and virtual care services across the PNW
- Demonstrates solid business acumen, including staffing models, capacity planning, ROI, budgeting, margins, and service offerings
- Consistently models Optum's values through service oriented leadership and effective communication

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare operations, clinical informatics, and/or digital health
- Demonstrated experience leading teams with both direct and indirect reports
- Significant experience delivering EHR, clinical technology, or digital transformation initiatives
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience within a healthcare delivery organization
Equipment Used:
- Office equipment, computer, multi-line phone system, web-based meeting technology
Mental & Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Mental Effort: Must be able to work effectively as a member of Optum team; work is detailed and complex with multiple competing priorities, deadlines, and internal and external customers
- Physical Requirements: Work is primarily in office environment required ability to see and hear and communicate; lifting up to 40 lbs
- Working Conditions: Work is performed both in an office setting; noise level may be moderate or oud on occasion; work required outside normal business hours

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
