Summary or Purpose
The Director of Maintenance and Operations (M&O) serves as the principal official responsible for coordinating District services in the areas of maintenance and operations, capital improvements, housing (procurement of units) and forming and implementing policies and procedures in the department. The Director assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within the budget allocations; and assures effective and efficient use of personnel, materials, facilities and time. The Director uses excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
Qualification Requirements
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. • 5 years experience in an equivalent position preferred.
• 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Three years of work experience with the public required.
• Three years of work experience with general office computer programs required.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License required. • Iñupiat speaking & cultural relevance preferred
• Such other alternatives as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Direct operations and staff of Maintenance including Plant Managers in all village schools
• Assist in the development of the District's six-year capital improvement plan
• Prepare reports for the Superintendent or Board of Education as requested
• Coordinate itinerant tradesmen support of village routine and preventative maintenance needs.
• Collaborate with the NSB CIPM Dept. on district capital projects.
• Prepare and develop the annual budget for the department.
• Coordinate Nutrition/Food Services
• Coordinate procurement of supplies, parts, materials, equipment and FF&E with village sites and the Business Office.

• Coordinate and direct outside contractors for all departmental certifications, inspections, and consulting
• Coordinate the development and implementation of departmental safety and staff training programs for village personnel
• Coordinate and direct departmental supervisors and employees to ensure compliance with AHERA, OSHA NSB Risk Management, and other required Borough, State, and Federal regulations
• Direct and implement the Disaster Plan for all District facilities
• Coordinate implementation of the district-wide computerized maintenance management system in village schools
• Provide oversight of transportation
• Negotiate leases for District Housing Program
• Adhere to all District policies and regulations
• Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed
