Job description

Ellington High School is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to serve as the Girls Basketball Junior Varsity Head Coach. The JV Head Coach will work closely with the Varsity Head Coach and athletic department to support the overall development and success of the Ellington Girls Basketball program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct organized, purposeful JV practices.
  • Coach and supervise the JV team during all practices, games, and team activities.
  • Teach basketball fundamentals, skills, strategy, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
  • Develop student-athletes in preparation for advancement within the high school program.
  • Work collaboratively with the Varsity Head Coach to maintain consistency in program philosophy, expectations, and systems.
  • Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes commitment, accountability, academics, and character.
  • Maintain effective communication with student-athletes, families, coaching staff, and the Athletic Department.
  • Follow all Ellington Public Schools, NCCC, and CIAC policies and expectations.
  • Assist with additional program responsibilities as directed by the Varsity Head Coach and Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

  • Previous basketball playing and/or coaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and skill development.
  • Ability to effectively teach, motivate, and communicate with high school student-athletes.
  • Commitment to creating a positive and developmentally appropriate athletic experience.
  • Must meet all Ellington Public Schools and CIAC coaching requirements and certifications.
