Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Hospital Administrative Director, Surgery and Plastic Surgery. In this role, the successful candidate The Administrative Director, Surgery and Plastic Surgery is responsible for the day-to-day operations for the Departments of Surgery and Plastic Surgery. This includes providing administrative oversight, financial planning, as well as operational direction and evaluation, in a manner consistent with the departmental/divisional mission, purposes, and goals.

Job Responsibilities Operational Excellence
  • Providesdailyoversightandmanagementofstaffresources,patientandstaffscheduleswhere needed, supplies, equipment and environment of care with a focus on efficiency, patient throughput, quality and safety. This includes assuring timely discharges to reach MDT goals.
  • Leads projects and initiatives focused on achieving institutional goals and promoting growth of the servicesbydevelopingproposalstooptimizeexistingservicesortorealizenewopportunitiesandby leading others as a change agent to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Facilitatesthedevelopmentandimplementationofoperationalworkflows,policiesandprocedures, and staff development activities to ensure the efficiency of operations, promote quality of care and the financial stability of operations.
  • Facilitatestheadministrativeprocessofclinical/departmentalactivitiesincludingrecruitingandon-boarding, maintaining records, organizing meetings, seminars, trainings, etc.
  • Establishesandmonitorsgoals,objectivesandservicestandardsforthedepartmentsinconjunction with departmental/organizational leadership
  • Workswithotherhospitalteamsandkeystakeholders,includingphysician,nursing,ancillaryand operational leadership to drive efficiency.
  • Engageswithstaffandestablishesaneffectivecommunicationstrategytosupportstaff engagement.
  • Maintainsawarenessofnewandemergingtechnologiestomanagetheprocessofinnovative change effectively with knowledge of the clinical implications.
  • Partnerswithappropriate leadership to initiate clear communication to patients,attendings and stakeholdersduringemergencysituationsrelatedtoweather,crisis,technical/mechanicalissues, environmental issues, surges in patient volume, etc.
Financial Management
  • Preparesoperationalandcapitalbudgets.
  • Develops strategies for cost containment and maximization of revenues by working with organizationalstakeholdersincludingphysicianleaders,supplychain,nursingandfinance
  • Workscloselywithfinancealongwith AVPandChiefofServiceonbudgeting,includingongoing monitoring, understanding variances, and maintaining close fiscal responsibility
  • CollaborateswithChiefofServiceanddesigneesaroundvalue-basedinitiativestoreduce unnecessary costs while driving patient quality and safety.
  • WorkswithChiefofServiceanddesigneestoidentityopportunitiesforrevenuecapturethrough effective clinical documentation in conjunction with the Director of Quality
  • ProactivelyworkswiththeChiefofServiceandAVPonfuturecapitalneedsandshepherds new/replacement equipment through the capital review process
Staff Management
  • Fostersongoingmentoring,coaching,developmentandprofessionaladvancementofmanagement and staff at all levels within areas of responsibility.
  • PromotescollaborativerelationshipswithinMedicalServicesandwithotherHospitalconstituencies to advance service goals and participates actively in the recruitment and selection of Medical Service management/professional staff, etc. as appropriate.
  • Reviewsemployeeengagementsurveysindetailidentifyingopportunitiestoimprovestaff engagement.
  • Supervisedirectandindirectreportsintheiraccomplishmentofgoals,tasks,anddepartmental initiatives.
Data Analytics
  • Synthesizes complex information in high-quality deliverables for presentation to senior leadership. Serveasresourcetodetermineappropriatedatasourcestoobtaininformationnecessarytoachieve department and/or organizational goals.
  • WorkscollaborativelywiththeHospitalOperationsandAnalyticsteam tobuildandenhanceservice-specific dashboards to drive change and continue monitoring.
  • Utilizesavailableoperationaldashboardstoidentifyopportunitiesandimplementeffective corrective actions when opportunities arise.
  • WorkscollaborativelywiththeDepartmentAdministratorsandHospitalleadersonoperationalizing strategic goals for the department
  • Performsadhocquantitativeandqualitativeanalyses(toinformleadershipdecisions).
  • Compliance,PolicyDevelopmentandAccreditationPrograms
  • LeadsthemaintenanceandachievementofTraumaLevel1ACSandMBSAQIPaccreditation,which includes successful site visits by accreditation bodies. Works with Regulatory, program leadership, and liaison services to ensure we are meeting standards, maintaining registries, and identifying opportunities for proactive adjustments.
  • Develops,monitors,andmaintainsqualityassuranceprogramsincompliancewithapplicableTJC, CMS, NYS DOH and other regulatory standards
  • Ensurescompliancewithandperformanceonnationalmeasures,TJCnationalpatientsafetygoals, hospital shared goals, and other hospital operational and quality metrics.
  • Anticipateschangesinregulationsanddevelopsaplanforcomplianceand/orperformance improvement.
Special Projects
  • Participatesinspecialprojectsandperformsotherdutiesasalignedwiththemissionandvalues of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a Masters degree in business administration, health care administration or related field and 5 years' related progressively responsible management and budget administration experience including experience planning and implementing administrative activities and supervising staff. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Written and oral communication skills applicable to a wide variety of audiences. Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma. Experience with managing frontline and supervisory staff. Experience working directly with physician leaders. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

7-10 years of relevant management experience. Expert in Microsoft Suite and familiarity with Tableau. Proficient in budgeting/financial reporting software.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
