Job Overview:

Clyde Companies is seeking a Civil or Mining Engineer with experience in mining operations, reclamation, and permitting to support our hard rock, sand, and gravel operations across the Intermountain West.

This role integrates civil & mining engineering design applied to mining operations, mine planning, regulatory compliance, water resource considerations, and field-based problem solving to ensure efficient resource extraction, responsible reclamation, and long-term land use sustainability.

This is a high-impact, highly visible position working closely with operations teams, leadership, and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate is self-driven, comfortable in both office and field environments, and capable of managing multiple projects across a diverse portfolio of mining operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Mine Planning & Reclamation

  • Develop, update, and maintain mining and reclamation plans to optimize resource extraction while ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational requirements

  • Monitor operations for adherence to approved plans (slopes, sequencing, setbacks, boundaries, etc.)

  • Conduct site visits to evaluate mining activity, verify compliance, and identify improvement opportunities

  • Plan and oversee reclamation activities to restore mined areas in a sustainable and environmentally sound manner

  • Perform volumetric analysis, reserve calculations, and resource modeling

  • Calculate reclamation and mining surety bonds

  • Participate in regulatory inspections and support compliance efforts

  • Prepare and submit required annual reports (Large, Small, and Limited Mine Progress Reports and Reclamation Permit Reports)

Permitting, Land use & Compliance

  • Manage land use and conditional use permitting (CUP), including annual compliance reviews

  • Ensure compliance with zoning laws, permit conditions, and regulatory requirements

  • Conduct property due diligence, including evaluation of mining plans, reclamation obligations, and land use entitlements

  • Serve as a liaison between operations teams and regulatory agencies

  • Support water rights management, including applications, monitoring, and reporting

Training & Coordination

  • Provide on-site training related to mining plans, reclamation, and compliance requirements

  • Support development and delivery of group training programs

  • Collaborate with operations, environmental teams, and leadership to align mine planning with business goals

  • Help standardize best practices across multiple operations

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mining Engineering (or closely related field)

  • 4-8 years of experience in mining, reclamation, land development, or similar civil engineering work

  • Experience with permitting, regulatory compliance, and site development

  • Working knowledge of mining operations and reclamation practices

Preferred:

  • Experience with surface hard rock and alluvial mining, including permitting, operations, and reclamation planning

  • Familiarity with federal and state regulatory frameworks (e.g., NEPA, Clean Water Act, BLM 43 CFR 3809, and analogous SMCRA-style requirements)

  • Experience in the Intermountain West (UT, ID, WY, CO, NV, AZ)

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS (ArcGIS), Propeller, or similar geospatial and design tools

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across technical teams and regulatory agencies

What Makes This Role Unique:

  • Work across a diverse portfolio of mining operations throughout the Intermountain West

  • High level of ownership and autonomy with direct influence on operational success

  • Balanced mix of engineering design, regulatory work, and field engagement

  • Opportunity to shape long-term reclamation and land use strategies

Compensation & Benefits:
