Job description

The Machinist is responsible for producing high-quality precision tooling for the Maag product line.  Operating within a collaborative, team-oriented environment, you will manage individual responsibilities across every stage of the machining process.  Your goal is to utilize all shop equipment safely and efficiently to deliver components that meet exacting standards.

Position description – Tasks, responsibilities, competencies 

  • Interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings to determine precise dimensions and tolerance requirements
  • Configure and operate a variety of machine shop equipment to fabricate precision components
  • Optimize machining workflows by selecting the most effective and efficient methods for each specific machine
  • Select appropriate cutting tools and materials based on product specifications and hardness
  • Calibrate machining parameters, including speeds, feeds, and depth of cut, to maximize tool life and finish quality
  • Execute rigorous dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring tools to ensure 100% compliance with customer requirements
  • Document production data and quality metrics accurately into the company database
  • Maintain a clean and safe workspace by adhering to all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) protocols to prevent accidents and asset damage

The incumbent considers all interests of quality, accident prevention and occupational safety as well as environmental safety in a preventive manner within his scope of responsibility and supports the avoidance of damages to people, facilities, assets, material and environment actively

Work Environment

  • Work in this position is in a machine shop environment. The employee may be exposed to airborne particles, metal shavings, sharp cutting tools, and moving mechanical parts. PPE and hearing protection are required at all times.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand, walk, or bend.  The employee must be able to lift items up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Education

Mandatory

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (additional technical skills a plus)  

Desirable

  • Technical certification or vocational training in Machining Technology

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 1-year hands-on experience in a profession machine shop

Desirable

  • Proven experience with Surface Grinding and O.D. Grinding, advanced proficiency in blueprint reading
