Job description

Director of Preconstruction

BBE | Bloomfield, CT

Competitive compensation + 10-20% performance bonus + 100% ESOP ownership | On-site

About BBE

Bartlett Brainard Eacott (BBE) is a 100% employee-owned construction management and general contracting firm with over a century of operational excellence in the Connecticut market. Founded in 1921, BBE delivers complex nonresidential projects across academic, R&D, corporate, data center, manufacturing, and institutional sectors, with an 85%+ repeat business rate and a reputation built on quality, integrity, and client relationships that last.BBE generates $160M+ in annual revenue, is ranked among the ENR Top 400 contractors nationally, and operates on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS).

The Opportunity

BBE is seeking a Director of Preconstruction to join the senior leadership team. This is a high-impact role with a clear path to VP-level leadership and, for the right person, a seat on the Executive Leadership Team. The VP of Estimating has built a strong, respected estimating practice over decades. What the firm needs now is a proven operator who can shoulder the full weight of that function, own the numbers with confidence, and be groomed to lead the department. Estimating is the engine of this business, and this person will be in the driver's seat.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full estimate lifecycle across all delivery methods: conceptual through GMP and competitive lump sum
  • Lead quantity takeoffs, pricing analyses, estimate reconciliation, and bid reviews
  • Benchmark against historical data and market conditions
  • Evaluate constructability, site logistics, and project-specific risk
  • Build and maintain a strong subcontractor network; manage bid coverage plans and trade proposals
  • Develop and validate GMP proposals, establish contingencies and allowances, and prepare open-book cost presentations
  • Represent BBE in preconstruction settings, present estimates, and build long-term client relationships
  • Grow into full ownership of the estimating department: mentoring junior staff and setting estimating standards

What You Bring

  • 10+ years in commercial/institutional CM/GC estimating; Director or VP-level experience preferred
  • Deep technical fluency across all building systems: site/civil, concrete, steel, MEP, and everything in between
  • Proven ability to deliver estimates to 100% completion: conceptual, schematic, DD, GMP, and lump sum
  • Background in private-sector CM/GC (institutional, healthcare, corporate, R&D, or manufacturing preferred)
  • Proficiency in Excel, MS Project, iSqFt, Autodesk, Procore, and UniFormat
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent pursuits and serve multiple stakeholders simultaneously
  • Hungry, humble, and smart. Non-negotiable cultural baseline.

Why BBE

  • You own what you build. BBE is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP. You don't just work here, you own a piece of every project you help win and deliver.
  • A century of craft. Over 100 years delivering complex institutional and commercial projects in Connecticut, with an 85%+ repeat business rate built on relationships and reputation, not just price.
  • A defined growth path. A clear and supported path for the right person to grow into VP-level leadership and ultimately a seat on the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Culture that invests in people. EOS operating system, education reimbursement, gas reimbursement, Thirsty Thursdays, golf simulator, and genuine work/life balance.

Compensation & Benefits
