Description:

Landscape Architecture Intern

Westwood Professional Services

The Landscape Architecture Intern will join a design team supporting streetscape, park, trail, and civic space projects for public infrastructure clients, including municipalities, counties, and public agencies. Projects range from small streetscape enhancements to large-scale corridor and public realm improvements that shape how communities experience shared infrastructure. This position offers direct opportunity to apply design coursework to real-world public spaces.

As a Landscape Architecture Intern, the selected candidate will learn to apply relevant design guidelines and accessibility standards — including ADA and local design manuals — while assisting Senior Landscape Architects in the preparation of site plans, planting plans, and construction details. The intern will build foundational proficiency in the design and visualization software used throughout the site design process.

Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of site plans, grading concepts, planting plans, and hardscape details for public infrastructure and civic space projects.
  • Support development of design graphics, renderings, and presentation materials for client and public agency meetings.
  • Help research applicable design guidelines, zoning requirements, and ADA accessibility standards to inform design recommendations.
  • Develop an understanding of client interests and help identify approaches to address client and community concerns in the performance of project work.
  • Actively coordinate with internal and external team members across public infrastructure projects to ensure effective communication and project progress.
  • Travel to project sites as necessary to gather field data, take site inventory, and interface directly with clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate Landscape Architecture program.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
  • Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
  • Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions on occasion.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications are preferred but not required for consideration:

  • Relevant industry experience through design coursework projects or prior internships in landscape architecture or site planning.
  • Experience with technical design software including AutoCAD, SketchUp, or Adobe Creative Suite.
