Job Description

Job Duties:
Feature Development: Write clean, maintainable Java code using Jakarta EE/Java EE specifications (EJB, CDI, JAXRS) within VS Code.
Database Programming: Author, optimize, and maintain complex TSQL queries, views, and stored procedures in Microsoft SQL Server.
Deployment & Configuration: Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise applications on Payara Server or Payara Micro.
Build Automation: Configure and maintain Maven pom.xml files, manage dependencies, and resolve version conflicts.
Source Control Management: Commit, branch, merge, and push application code daily using Git workflows.
AIAssisted Efficiency: Leverage GitHub Copilot in VS Code to accelerate code generation, draft unit tests, and refactor code.
Testing & Quality: Write JUnit tests and perform rootcause debugging for runtime exceptions within the Payara environment.
You'd be a GOOD fit if:
You have backend Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering using Java.
You have relational Database Skills: Proven ability to write functional SQL queries, perform joins, and manipulate data in SQL Server.
You have version Control Basics: Handson experience using Git for core version control tasks like pulling, pushing, and branching.
You have experience with build Tools: Practical experience using Maven to compile, package, and build Java projects.
You have IDE Familiarity: Experience using Visual Studio Code as a primary or secondary environment for software development.
You have experience in criminal justice.
You'd be a GREAT fit if:
You have Enterprise Java Mastery: Deep expertise in advanced Jakarta EE specs, dependency injection, and JPA/Hibernate framework tuning.
You are a Payara Expert: Proven track record of configuring Payara thread pools, data sources, and connection pools for production.

You have advanced Git & Collaboration skills: Mastery of GitFlow, resolving complex merge conflicts, and conducting rigorous peer code reviews.
You have advanced Maven Lifecycle skills: Experience managing multimodule Maven projects and custom plugin configurations.
You are a Copilot Power User: Strong prompt engineering skills with Copilot to maximize velocity while maintaining strict code validation and security.
VS Code Productivity: Mastery of the VS Code Java extension ecosystem, custom tasks, workspace settings, and advanced debugging tools.

Programmer III: $5,425.35 $5,556.51
Once the candidate meets one year of service as a Programmer III there are 3 retention steps considered annually based on eligibility.
