Job Description
The Department of Human Development, Family Science, and Counseling (HDFSC) in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a continuing, full-time (non-tenure track) Lecturer II position with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.The HDFSC Department is dedicated to advancing the wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and community engagement. We prepare students for careers and graduate study in human development, family science, counseling, education, social services, and related fields. As part of a Carnegie R1 research university and a land-grant institution, the department is committed to fostering student success through evidence-based teaching, mentoring, and applied learning opportunities.
The successful candidate will contribute to the department's instructional mission by teaching undergraduate courses in Human Development and Family Science, primarily in our online HDFS Bachelor of Science program. The candidate will serve as the coordinator and instructor of online service-learning courses for the program. Other online/in-person courses may include introductory and upper-division offerings in lifespan human development, family interaction, parenting, family resource management, diversity in families, family policy, research methods, and related topics consistent with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. Teaching assignments may also include service courses that support students from across the university. Strong candidates will demonstrate innovative, student-centered approaches to online and in-person teaching that promote engagement, critical thinking, and academic success. Experience with online instruction that incorporates active learning, inclusive pedagogical practices, and applied learning opportunities is desirable. The expected teaching load is the equivalent of 4 courses per academic semester. Applicants are encouraged to review the department's curriculum and programs through the HDFSC departmental website and university catalog.
We welcome applicants who wish to play an integral role in the online undergraduate mission of the department. In addition to classroom instruction, the faculty member will attend all department and program meetings, and be involved in student engagement activities, including mentoring, recruitment, retention initiatives, and participation in departmental assessment and curriculum development. Service responsibilities may also include committee work, program evaluation, and support of departmental events and community partnerships.

Required Qualifications
Lecturer II: Master's degree in Human Development and Family Science, Human Development, Family Science, Child Development, Family Studies, or a closely related field by the start date.
Teaching Assistant Professor: Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Science, Human Development, Family Science, Child Development, Family Studies or a closely related field by the start date.
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in online teaching, community-engaged learning, and student mentoring.
Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to fostering student engagement and success in a diverse, online learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching online undergraduate courses as the primary instructor.
Experience with student advising, mentoring, or co-curricular programming.
Demonstrated use of innovative, evidence-based, and inclusive teaching practices in online and in-person teaching environments.
Experience working with diverse student populations and community partners through community-engaged scholarship.
