POSITION OVERVIEW and PURPOSE:
Ensure products meet established quality standards throughout the hollow metal door and frame manufacturing process. This hands-on leadership role provides daily oversight of quality activities on the shop floor, supports inspection and problem resolution, and drives a process-oriented quality system focused on standard work, consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across fabrication, welding, and assembly operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Lead and direct daily activities of the quality team on the shop floor.
• Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure products meet established standards and customer requirements.
• Provide real-time coaching to operators and inspectors to support quality awareness and accountability.
• Develop, maintain, and reinforce SOPs, inspection standards, and standard work for quality processes.
• Drive consistency across shifts, departments, and manufacturing operations.
• Oversee inspection of incoming materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Track defects, identify trends, and drive corrective actions to reduce rework and improve first-pass quality.
• Manage non-conforming material processes and ensure appropriate documentation and follow-up.
• Train and develop quality personnel; evaluate skills and support closure of performance gaps.
• Partner with Operations, Engineering, Production Supervisors, and operators to improve processes and sustain quality standards.
• Support audits, maintain required documentation, and ensure adherence to quality procedures and standards.
• Promote and reinforce a “Quality at the Source” philosophy across prefabrication, welding, assembly, and finishing operations.
• Lead initiatives that transition quality from inspection-based detection to process-based prevention.
• Support The Mesker Way, FUNdamentals, and lead by example.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Must be able to work in a manufacturing and shop-floor environment.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
• May be required to lift, push, or pull materials as needed within safe work guidelines.
• Must use and be able to work with required PPE.
• The noise level of the manufacturing environment may be moderate to loud.
• Uphold all safety standards applicable to the responsibilities above.
• Must be able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• 3–7+ years of experience in manufacturing quality preferred.
• Metal fabrication, welding, hollow metal door, or frame manufacturing experience preferred.
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong process-oriented mindset with the ability to reinforce standard work and accountability.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
• Root cause problem-solving skills and ability to drive corrective actions.
• Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a group environment.
• Must demonstrate good organizational skills related to managing documentation, priorities, and time.
