Job description

Description

The Company

Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) manages Liberty Mutual Insurance Group's (LMIG) global financial assets across global markets and private domains to build capital and generate income. With over $100 billion in assets under management (AUM) and a team of nearly 300 investment, finance, and operations professionals located in Boston, MA, and New York, NY, LMI offers the best of both worlds - the look and feel of a boutique investment firm with the reputation and financial strength of a global leader.ย ย

LMI has been on a transformation path to spur innovation, capitalize on deep expertise, and scale its returns on long-term flexible capital through a "one firm, one portfolio, one team" mindset. Our operating model is built on three pillars: centralized portfolio construction, asset management, and investment-enabling services. The teams are structured as Investment Business Units (IBUs) working in concert: Global Strategy & Capital Allocation, Risk Management, Global Credit Markets, Global Alternative Markets, Global Liquid Markets, and Global Investment Solutions. Our portfolio spans a broad spectrum of public and private asset classes, and we are committed to expanding our capabilities and our toolkit in furtherance of our mission.ย

The ideal candidate has spent their career close to investment decision-making and has also demonstrated a strong interest in using data, technology, and quantitative methods to improve outcomes. They should be able to engage credibly on portfolio construction, alpha generation, risk-taking behavior, and market dynamics, while also bringing a practical mindset for execution and adoption.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic & Platform Leadership

  • Define and lead a strategic roadmap that advances how investment decisions are made, supported, and scaled across GLM, with an emphasis on embedding systematic frameworks into the investment process.
  • Identify and lead high-impact opportunities to modernize workflows , develop systematic investment signals, and strengthen alpha generation across fixed income and macro strategies, ensuring alignment with the evolving needs of the platform.
  • Design and evolve an advanced performance diagnostic platform to better understand investment strengths and weaknesses, promote transparency, and fuel a cycle of continuous improvement.
  • Partner across GLM and LMI to integrate innovative thinking into strategic planning, leveraging both internal insights and external best practices.

ย

Execution & Integration

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that improve strategy formation, signal processing, and operational workflows-including both tactical, team-developed tools and enterprise-scale applications developed in collaboration with LMI Product and Technology.
  • Design and implement quantitative models-including factor-based frameworks, relative value engines, and systematic credit strategies-that augment fundamental decision-making and support the evolution toward a quantamental investment process.
  • Drive the adoption of robust analytics platforms, modern data infrastructure, Python-based tooling and research infrastructure to support repeatable, scalable investment execution.
  • Ensure initiatives are operationalized across the investment platform and embedded into daily decision-making.

ย

Talent, Influence & Collaboration

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of intellectual curiosity, continuous learning, and applied experimentation.
  • Act as a key strategic partner to Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Analysts, ensuring innovation efforts align with GLM's strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with leaders across LMI Product and Technology to evolve the firm's product development model, ensuring greater alignment between investment needs and enterprise technology capabilities.
  • Represent GLM externally with industry peers, research partners, and technology providers to ensure Liberty remains at the forefront of investment innovation.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in capital markets, systematic investing, or quantitative finance, with a track record of developing and scaling investment strategies in institutional environments.
  • Deep expertise in systematic fixed income or macro strategies, portfolio construction, factor modeling, and applied quantitative methods. Experience with quantamental investment processes strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., financial engineering, applied mathematics, statistics, economics, physics) or certification (e.g., CFA, FRM) strongly preferred.
