Position Summary
J. J. Keller has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Software Engineer to help build, enhance, and support software applications and digital solutions that deliver value to our customers and business. This role contributes to all phases of the software development life cycle by analyzing requirements, writing and testing code, troubleshooting issues, documenting solutions, and supporting application releases. The Associate Software Engineer partners with developers, business stakeholders, and technical support teams to implement enhancements, resolve production issues, and continuously improve application performance and user experience. The role emphasizes code quality, security-focused development practices, continuous improvement, and ongoing professional growth within an agile technology environment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Performs assigned programming tasks related to new development or maintenance on assigned websites or applications.
  • Analyzes user needs and impact to other site areas to determine technical requirements of assigned tasks.
  • Promotes strong quality practices by performing unit testing and providing appropriate level of support for user acceptance testing, as needed.
  • Follows secure coding guidelines as directed and begins incorporating basic security-by-design concepts into development work.
  • Demonstrates awareness of common OWASP security risks and learns how to avoid them through coding best practices and code reviews.
  • Maintains accurate technical documentation for assigned programming projects.
  • Acts as a support resource for the technical support staff to ensure that customer-reported issues are being addressed in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Develops and maintains a solid understanding of the technology tools and trends and remains current in new technology developments and their potential impact on the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Experience & Education
  • Prior PC/Internet based software or web development experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Associate's degree in a Computer Science or technology-related field.
  • In lieu of degree, may consider a combination of education and related work experience.

Other Skills/Qualifications
  • Strong problem solving skills.
