This position is accountable for the day-day management of the Finance and Treasury, Actuarial and Reporting teams and their performance as it relates to business goals and objectives. This position will work with key leaders to ensure that the business is operating effectively, with sound financial analysis, and with appropriate financial and operating controls in place.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing financial analysis of development and operational results against the budget
  • Work side-by side with the Business Team and/or Finance personnel within Optum and/or across other aspects of UnitedHealth Group, to fully understand the business and support the financial goals and objectives. Develop and implement controls to support these goals/objectives as needed
  • Provide analysis and support for developing ideas, programs and projects. Support client specific implementations
  • Develop systems for key financial and operating initiatives, as needed
  • Directly supervise key financial operating personnel as required; effectively support and promote the development of staff 
  • Lead Finance Reporting and Actuarial Team Supporting Railroad Business (manage 4 direct reports)
  • Key client contact on monthly results reporting to client
  • Support Annual Financial Audit of the Customers' Plans
  • Manage customer reporting team deliverables, including:
  • Statistical claim reporting details
  • Statistical claim and cost of care program analysis
  • Plan contribution and expenditure reporting
  • Overall Funding Responsibilities
    • Lead contact for coordination with all external vendors
    • Produce monthly funding reports - highlight contributions and expenditures relative to projections
    • Lead trend projection discussions for medical, behavioral and Rx trend projections with internal and external partners
    • Understand how unique eligibility requirements translate into funding implications
  • Lead financial contact for internal budgeting requirements
  • Collective Bargaining Support
    • Lead research and response to ad hoc client requests related to collective bargaining
    • Lead data discussion with all client actuaries - each year we receive detailed claim information requests from multiple external consultants

Required Qualifications:

  • 7 years of finance, accounting or underwriting experience
  • 7 years working with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • 3 years of managing teams
  • Experience in a matrixed environment within a large organization
  • Experience managing monthly reporting or financial planning and analysis 
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency
  • Must be in Hartford office and live close enough to come to the office 3-days a week 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA/MBA
  • Healthcare Industry
  • Prior external client-facing experience 
  • Prior experience presenting financial results

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $134,600 - $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
