Job description

The Senior Vice President, Facilities Operations will be responsible for leading multiple facilities regions and charged with providing the leadership, strategic vision, tactical execution and business acumen to support the diverse platform-wide facilities needs throughout QTS. This person is responsible to coordinate, synthesize, and integrate all aspects of corporate real estate management, financial analysis, master planning and new construction together with direct facilities management of existing facilities including infrastructure maintenance, datacenter operations, and business continuity/disaster recovery procedures for all assigned owned and leased properties.

This person will also be responsible for managing multi-million dollar annual capital and expense budgets. The successful candidate will have good judgment, strategic agility, and good decision-making skills. They should also possess the ability to build and lead teams and to work well in a collaborative, team oriented environment. They should have proven leadership, management, interpersonal, negotiation, organizational, analytic, and communication skills. Keen planning skills along with the ability to lead through influence and be a proactive partner with strong customer service orientation who builds relationships by building trust. This person should also be able to solve problems at a strategic and functional level, have excellent oral and written communication skills and a solid work ethic and unquestioned integrity.

RESPONSIBILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain, establish and implement facilities policies, procedures and organizational structure within the boundaries established by senior management team and corporate policy while ensuring no contradiction in federal, state and local operating regulations or laws
  • Develop, direct and monitor short-term and long-range business plans consistent with overall profit and growth objectives of the company that establishes operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and an environmentally friendly community partner
  • Supervise the preparation of and implementation of effective operating budgets for each Data Center in their assigned region
  • Oversee operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements
  • Through a staff of Data Center Directors and other leaders, ensure the pro-active delivery of corporate services support space planning, Power and Cooling services, headcount projections, planning, budgeting, capital projects, maintenance, janitorial services, landscaping, business continuity/disaster recovery for facilities
  • Provide Matrixed leadership in conjunction with Regional Leaders and other line of business owners to ensure operational standards are achieved
  • Help negotiate improvement project contracts as needed on leased and owned real estate
  • Confer with professional staff to find resolution to operational problems, authorize operational procedures and approve all major estimates
  • Maintain positive relationships and communication with staff and executive level management
  • Utilize comparative evaluations between facilities and key performance indicators (ITIL, and International Facilities Management Association) to monitor the effectiveness of operational programs at each Data Center through benchmarking and the utilization of best practices
  • Ensure facilities' compliance with all governmental operating guidelines.
  • Obtain and keep current all necessary licenses, permits and certifications as required
  • Participate in community activities and organizations as appropriate through the maintenance of professional association affiliations and participation within association programs
  • Drive innovation into facilities programs/systems with an environmentally conscious attitude of "go green"
  • Participate on acquisition teams to assess potential facility as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Engineering, Architecture, related area or equivalent professional experience
  • Fifteen or more years' experience in facilities management, Data Center management, corporate/military engineering, or other related field
  • Five or more years' people management experience, with experience in managing team "virtually" preferred
  • Strong knowledge of related regulations and laws and general knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, maintenance, environmental codes & safety codes (OSHA, EPA, DOT, ADA, and NFPA)
  • Working knowledge of construction practices, building codes, and project management
  • Experience having P&L responsibility, budgeting and financial model development
  • US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree (MBA, MPA, or Masters in Engineering or Construction Management or related field) or 20+ years related work experience and/or training

The estimated pay range for this role, if based in Virginia, is:

$259,781.93 - 397,275.84
