Job description

Title: Quality Director
Location: Oxford, MS
Salary: $170,000 and up depending upon experience
Schedule: Onsite Daily

Focus: The Quality Director is responsible for leading the Quality organization at the Oxford, Mississippi manufacturing facility, ensuring that all products meet rigorous regulatory and Winchester quality standards. This position provides strategic leadership, technical direction, and operational oversight for quality assurance, quality control, ballistics, continuous improvement, and compliance functions in a high-volume, defense manufacturing environment.
Incumbent will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and Government representatives to ensure defect-free ammunition is produced, delivered on time, and in full compliance with contractual obligations.
Quality Director Essential Job Functions:
  • Quality Leadership & Strategy - Develop and implement quality systems and policies aligned with Winchester, U.S. Military, and NATO requirements; lead a diverse team of managers, engineers, technicians, and inspectors; foster a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Compliance & Assurance - Ensure adherence to Military technical data packages, ISO, ATF/OSHA, and defense regulations; oversee audits, inspections, and surveillance activities.
  • Operations Support - Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Maintenance to resolve product/process quality issues; lead root cause analysis; manage statistical process control, calibration, and associated programs.
  • Continuous Improvement - Deploy Lean Six Sigma and advanced problem-solving methods to reduce defects, scrap, and rework; enhance testing, inspection, and measurement technologies; benchmark and share best practices across Winchester and industry peers.
  • People & Organizational Development - Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing Quality organization; drive accountability, technical excellence, change management, and career growth; partner with HR to recruit, train, and retain top talent.
Quality Director Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree* in Engineering, Quality Management, Business Management, Science or closely related field; Master's degree* preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Quality within manufacturing with at least 5 years in a leadership role; Defense or ammunition manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ISO 9001, or high-level quality management systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Army/DoD contracts, MIL-STDs, and defense industry compliance standards preferred.
  • Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Some travel will be required - less than 10%.

Location-Specific Requirements:
  • This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
