Director of Conferences and Events


Position Description 

This position has the responsibility to lead the conference and event activities of Northwest Nazarene University consistent with the mission of Northwest Nazarene University. This individual reports to the Vice President for Finance & Operations. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and executes the internal scheduling and external marketing plan for use of the University Campus for Conferences and Events, including oversite of proposals and contract negotiation, budget and general financial oversite of the department.
  • Provides for scheduling of all campus facility use, production operations, technical support and general administration of the conferences and events sponsored by the University.
  • Develops the master schedule in cooperation with the Office of Student Development and the Master Calendar Committee.
  • Facilitates inter-departmental communication and planning for hallmark university events such as Board of Trustees, Homecoming, and Commencement.
  • Hires, trains, schedules, and supervises student, staff, volunteer, and contract services.
  • Acts as Primary contact for rental clients, external partners, and constituents.
  • Assesses Mission-Fit of prospective rental programs.
  • Provides for Box Office support, ushers, parking, concessions, and general audience services for major university events.
  • Assesses facility condition and equipment inventories; Propose capital equipment acquisitions, facility deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, marketing, or public relations
  • Leadership experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the university and its greater community of constituents. The candidate must demonstrate high motivation and commitment to the University, including the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines in a deadline-oriented environment, work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills in the English language (both oral and written)
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information
  • Skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform all functions of the position
  • The University requires that all candidates have a Christian perspective (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU and be willing to help advance the spiritual goals of the University
  • Management and supervisory experience
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, squat, twist, stoop, and work comfortably and safely on ladders, manlifts, and on catwalks
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, including some Sundays
  • Ability to operate within various computer software programs
  • Ability to effectively train others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in conference and event management and/or hospitality management
  • Sales or marketing experience


Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant within a range of $47,600 to $56,000.  Full-time personnel will be offered access to a benefits package including health, vision, and dental insurance for employee and family, life and disability insurance, flexible spending plan, tuition benefits, annual leave, sick leave, opportunities for professional development, and a retirement program.
