About the role

Intact Lab is looking for a Manager, Design - E-commerce for a permanent mandate. In collaboration with managers of product and multidisciplinary teams, the manager will create intuitive, effortless and user-centered e-commerce experiences that enables Canadians to shop for insurance with ease and confidence.


In this role, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our e-commerce strategy from quote to purchase and lead a team of Product Designers to conceive experiences that are aligned with user needs and business objectives. You and your team will execute all stages of the design process, from research and ideation to design execution, including interface design (UX and UI) for our digital shopping journey.

What you'll do here:


As the Manager, Design E-commerce, you play a mission critical role in defining and accomplishing our digital roadmap. Reporting to the Director, Acquisition - Product & Design, your main responsibilities are:


  • Provides clear direction to a team of product designers on user-centered design best practices, principles and approaches.In charge of managing experience initiatives within the team and align them with business objectives.
  • Oversee the creation and development of user-centric e-commerce experiences, ensuring interactions are intuitive, transparent, visually appealing and enhance user experience.
  • Help re-imagine the business processes surrounding the Design practice to help maximize the value generation from the product, and collaboration with Product teams.
  • Foster a strong experimentation and outcome driven culture in your team through design research, continuous improvement, A/B testing and performance tracking with clear KPIs.
  • Provides leadership and knowledge to the Design Team, focusing on the management of professional employees. Responsible for the team's performance and results.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, researchers, data analysts, data scientists, and engineers to integrate new capabilities that align with user needs.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in AI to inform design strategies and ensure our products and processes remain at the forefront of innovation.
  • Champion the importance of user feedback in the product-design process, ensuring that user perspectives and business objectives are integral to the development and refinement of our shopping journey.
  • Participates in setting priorities for the team, building short and long term product roadmaps, planning appropriate objectives and operational efficiencies to meet or exceed business goals.
  • Manages experience initiatives and supports team in the accomplishment of project objectives.Challenges and leads the team with their expertise.
  • Responsible for projecting, measuring and reporting business value of all team initiatives, alongside Product Managers.
  • Follows success of implementation and supports improvement of future iterations.
  • Responsible for the development of valuable processes and business strategies.
  • Manages the performance assessment of those processes to supports improvement of future iterations.

What you bring to the table:


  • A bachelor's degree in Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in strategy, design and/or digital.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing professionals, including managers an asset.
  • Proven experience in designing mobile first e-commerce customer journies, with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centered shopping journeys.
  • Strong experiementation culture with a proven track record with A/B testing strategies and continuous improvement.
  • Experience with user research methodologies and applying insights to inform design.
  • Familiarity with the latest AI technologies and their applications in enhancing user experiences, and design process.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in user-centric design practices.
  • Experience in a professional environment to promote work, deliver work, develop and inspire teams, and design world class methods and approaches.
  • Well-versed in design thinking methods and techniques.
  • Strategic thinking and the ability to be influential.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).Need to interact on a regular basis with stakeholders and leadership across business units.
