Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is accepting applications for an Assistant Director, Student Accessibility Services (Gainesville).This position is responsible for developing and implementing all disability services to ensure programmatic and physical accessibility for students with documented disabilities at the Gainesville Campus. This position also requires flexible hours (associated with responsibilities for Open House and new student orientation sessions). Responsible for providing comprehensive leadership and direction on the Gainesville campus to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with the support they need from matriculation to graduation in order to facilitate their educational success at U.N.G.
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and holds the responsibility of serving as a mandatory reporter for all Clery Act crimes.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the campus policies and procedures address the needs and concerns of students with disabilities and that these policies and procedures are in compliance with the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act and meet the requirements of the Board of Regents. This position is responsible for collecting documentation and sending this information to the Regents Center for Learning Disorders (RCLD) to be reviewed when necessary, and determining appropriate accommodations based on the disability. Provide appropriate recommendations to the University regarding accessibility standards and guidelines. Prepare related written reports for the Director, University Departments, and the University System of Georgia, as requested.
  • Promote and facilitate the retention and equal academic access of all students with disabilities through active and focused engagement. Address inquiries regarding disabilities. Meet and communicate with enrolled students, potential students, outside agencies and resources, as well as family members, educating them about all disability services and relevant policies and procedures. Ensure appropriate accommodations for students by coordinating with other departments (e.g. Testing and Counseling). Plan and implement professional development workshops to educate the campus.
  • This position is responsible for reviewing student data to help continually improve student services and departmental success. Conduct program evaluations. Regularly monitor the academic progress of students with disabilities. This position requires constant maintenance of accurate and confidential records and competent utilization of the SAM (Student Accommodation Manager) database and Maxient.
  • Actively participate in monthly Accessibility Services Departmental meetings. Communicate problem solving ideas with other Accessibility Services Directors on challenging accommodation or disability related issues. Maintain membership and/or collaborative relationships with the appropriate postsecondary professional association(s). Periodically attend professional conferences to stay current on issues affecting students with disabilities. Service on Division and University committees as designated.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of Banner is desired.
  • Familiarity with alternative media and assistive technology is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as work independently while committed to collaboration and communication across a multi-campus university.
  • Ability to effectively present information and to respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, and community members. Ability to respond appropriately to students in distress.
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure of deadlines and ability to make judgments and decisions independently.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, counseling, special education or a related field is required.
  • Requires three (3) years related experience. Strong preference will be given to those with experience in disability services within the University System of Georgia.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in working with individuals with disabilities and coordination of accommodations is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.

Proposed Salary
  • The proposed salary is: $54,778-$60,256.
